I see that Wakefield have ended their  interest in JT, not that I'm suggesting we should, but I wonder if we'll make a bid for him? His options in SL seem to be somewhat limited now.

Did you mean Wakefield or Castleford?

Cas came out on Monday and said they didnt want him, but I've a feeling that was just a smoke screen. I predict he'll probably end up there.

I wouldnt rule out him going to Harlequins though.

KV, it was Wakefield, John Kear actually said that he had told Olly Wilkes he would get a go this season, so how would he feel if they bought another forward. You may be right about Cas as they have lost Mark Edmundson.

Depends how much he wants and if he's worth the money, I wouldn't have thought he'd come cheap, but there again from his point of view 'beggars can't be choosers'.

To be honest, I'd rather Wakey signed Thackray and then let us have Wilkes back.

If the Yorkshire based SL clubs don't want what is a rareity i.e. a quality English player he must be bad news.

I think we'd be crazy to turn him down if we were offered him. The only issue would be money - we need keep as much space under the cap as possible for other positions and I doubt he would come that cheap.

How about this (admittedly unlikely scenario)?

Thackray appears to be having problems getting a new SL club to sign him. Probably due to injury and possibly perceived "attitude" problems. Would it be worth offering him the opportunity to re-build his reputation on a match-by-match agreement?

Considering how many of our existing squad are under 21, and therefore not on the cap, I'd suggest we've still got plenty of room to manoeveure.

Thackeray would be another cracking prop forward to have in your team.We should definatley be in for a player of that calibre.

Do we really want to risk it - doesn't take many badd eggs (and I'm not saying Thackeray is - don't know the bloke, never met him) but there are a lot of very young kids in the current Widnes squad - do we really need the risk of setting them bad examples and causing rifts within the squad (as a couple of years back with everybody's favourite ex-player, dolphin harrasser and general bon vivant ?)
