Got a bad feeling

I love Widnes Vikings to pieces, but I can't for the life of me see them doing anything this season.
As far as I can make out wev'e got a team full of nobodies, with no pedigree, last year was our best chance and I can't see lightening striking twice.
Please lads prove me wrong

Legend Al,
I think you've gone to far as everybody is entitled to there own opinion and too many people are thinking that we are going to be as good as last year which we aren't, but we will suprise a few clubs as they will think that we are a walkover and won't be expecting us to be able to put up much of a fight.

I would not say we have got a team full of nobodies, but we could do with a couple of pretty good signings to try and ease a lot of peoples nerves .

Everyone is entiltiled to their own opinions, but negative rubbish like that is getting on my nerves.
You have to consider where we are now compared to where we was the week after the grand final. The acheivments made in that short space of time are amazing.
We have a club. We have a team. We have a very sucessful owner who finally is bring some much needed professionalism to the club.
I am not suggesting that we are going to be any where near like we where last year on the field, but we've advanced 1 million miles off the field.
We are short of a few players, but I'm sure these positions will be filled by the time the season proper starts. A major advantage over many of the teams in our league is that we are still full time.
There are many more positives around the club atm than there are negatives.
Just get behind the club, for christs sake. I'm all for constructive criticism and suggestions, but straight out negative clap trap like that first post is just rubbish.
Peas.

As we all know, this years squad doesnt compare to last years for quality nor the majority of the other big sides in our division IMO. We do however have a very good chance of winning some big games because the team spirit this year will be an ' us verus the them ' attitude, which should mean we will go at all the teams we play 100%. Despite this if you offered me 6th place at the end of the season now, I would rip your arm off.

Yeah I'm pretty much in agreement with that. I think people are overstimating how good some of the other teams in the league are going to be, and overestimating how bad we are going to be. O.K. Salford/Leigh should run away with but other than that (I honestly dont think Celtic are going to be much kop) I think we've got the makings of a squad that is capable of competeing with any team in this league.
With us starting on -9 i think 6th place would be an achevement, but an obtainable one at that. Any higher than 6th will be a big bonus IMO.

Considering we couldn't start signing players until well after everyone else had got the key positions filled and nucleus of their teams sorted I think the club have managed to put an excellent squad together. Are we going to win the league? I very much dounbt it but we will be competitive and should make the play-offs.
Look on the bright side, a less professional outfit might have taken over and a second rate coach might of been signing players off Leigh Rec instead of the proven and promising ones we have signed. Even worse, we might not have had a club at all.
The club have given temselves an outside chance of a franchise but I think in reality 2012 is their target.

Would you like to predict where we will finish this season?
Like I said I want the team to prove me wrong, just can't see it.
Maybe I'm the eternal pessimist!!

Not sure on qualifications as a pessimist but your evaluation of players is apalling.
If you picked the best 13 players in NL1 Hardman, Smith, Beswick, Noone and Gannon would walk in and we haven't finished with our signings.
Then Hill, Hartley amd Gallagher are the sort of players that would be in a top 3 teams starting 13.
McLoughlin was a real stand out at Batley a team that have made the 6 more than once.
Dodd, Gaskell and Morrison are top half of NL1 players.
I'll bet there aren't many talented NL1 youngsters as promising as Draper.
There are 13 players that certainly not nobodies by any logical stretch of the imagination.
The juries out on Speakman but you don't get to Acadamy rep honours unless there is a decent player in you.
Also we have a number of youngsters and a couple of loan signings a couple of whom may have good seasons.
The above does not include any further signings and as the quota is not filled and we have no SH yet I suspect that at least one more top drawer (for NL1) signing is on its way.
That squad with a fair wind could well finish 2nd (without the deduction) or even push Salford.

We are 8 days from our first match, albeit a friendly, but I for one cannot wait, I am soooooooo excited.
Why? Because I think we will trash a full strength Wigan team? No, simply
because
we have a team to field as opposition, and we have a season to look forward to, and no matter what happens this season, good or bad, I for one am dead proud of SOC, SMc, and the entire team at Widnes for pulling us out of the mire and giving us something to look forward.
Not only have they saved us from a season without a club, but they have done it with style, verve and a very clear business sense.
I hope none of the lads read the opening message.
Get behind the lads, give them your best support and at the end of the season, no matter what happens, reflect on the fact that you
were
able to watch them.
and that is just my
opinion

I think these comments are well out of order. I have raised concerns in the past weeks saying we need more bodies on board, but I have never said we are a bunch of nobodies. I haven't looked but I would have thought that the vast majority of of squad have played in SL at some point so how can people question the players pedigree. I think we have the basis of a good squad, but could do with a couple of class signings to turn us into contenders this year. Without new players and with the points deduction, we may struggle to be in the top 4, but there's time yet to bring new people in.
