i have a theory to getting alot more fans, it may seem hard but it would be worth a shot just to see Widnes in the SL.
If everybody makes it there goal to get a friend/family/neighbour to come to a widnes match, the attendance figures would boost alot and may even see them double

Well done and it the fans who help our cause even the glory hunters. If you got a friend who supports a superleague team try get them to come games when they not playing.Maybe widnes could talk to saints or wigan and give discounts to their supporters who like rugby to watch widnes. As dont think wire come our games.Just an idea as some people just like rugby.Maybe a minibus from saints with 30 fans.

Im not been funny Bucko but it doesnt matter how many fans we have every week if the teams not good enough then the teams not good enough,we need to start off this season to a flyer and dont forget were 9 points adrift straight away so i think we need something a bit more than some more fans turning up,just my opinion

Only a fool would believe that our attendances don't matter this season. Are you that fool?

At the fans forum SO'C said if we can get better attendances it will help our bid for a licence (and he ain't no fool) so it could help us into SL.

I think we need higher attendances this season to help us get a SL licence, winning matches would help as well, but we don't have to finish in the top 2, it would probably be enough to finish in the top 6, as position in the table isn't one of the conditions for a licence.

In some ways the product on the pitch might generate a bit more interest in the stands this year from those of previous seasons. For the last couple of years there has been an expectation that we will batter all bar Leigh, Cas (Hull KR) and Whitehaven. A lot of people probably thought that there was little point turning up to these games as they were already a foregone conclusion as a result. Even if that wasn't the case in every game there is normally less to get excited in a 50 - 6 victory than a 20 -18 thriller.
The other teams in the lower half will be nearer to us and we might have one or two surprises up our sleeves against the big 2 this year. Someone that has to bite their nails for the last 10 minutes might be slightly more inclined to come again rather than someone that watches us run in try after try unopposed.

Good point Chris. Please note that attendances for the early part of the season / NRL may have a bearing on the RFL's decision when awarding the franchises. However it will not matter a jot where in the league we finish, because the franchises are being awarded in June/July therefore well before the final league positions are decided. For the 2012 season if you want to apply I understand that your have to have been in a GF in one of the previous 3 seasons i.e. 2009, 2010 & 2011. So any increase in attendances must be in the early part of the season as will not have any influence on any decision if after July.

There's something in that BUT what the fans want is exciting games won by Widnes. The problem with that is that close matches sometimes end in defeat - a few of those and the same whingers complaing about too many foregone conclusions last season will be staying away because we're losing games.

Aside from answering a question with a question do you still think that Widnes' attendances this coming season will mean nothing when the SL licences are determined? It's not a difficult question.

It is probably not as straighforward as you think. It doesn't matter to Sky if we have 3, 5 or 8 thousand - they don't make their money by people paying at the gate (electronic or not) - what matters to them is the profit we can generate for them and if they see a club with a millionaire owner, main sponsors as a national company, shirt sponsors as an international company and an innovative approach to the running of a business, there is a strong likelihood that they will wheel out the 'potential' card - citing potential of the club but really meaning potential for them to line theor pockets.
