Lake District training camp sharpens McCormack?s Vikings

Steve McCormack has been putting his Vikings? squad through their paces at a special training camp in the Lake District ahead of Sunday?s friendly match against Wigan Warriors.

All 18 members of the first team squad, along with the coaching staff, spent five days at Whinwell Forest Centre Parc Holiday Resort at Penrith in Cumbria - but it was anything but a vacation for the players.

Head coach McCormack said: ?We had an intensive training programme involving a number of team building activities including paintballing, tackling obstacle courses and high-rope climbing exercises.  We also had access to Penrith Sports College all-weather pitch where we worked on tactics and skills development in preparation for the new season.

?The facilities were first-class and the players certainly worked extremely hard. It was really important for me to bring the squad together and build the team spirit which is such a vital ingredient of any successful sports team. It was also useful to work on a superb all-weather surface at a time when pitches are completely sodden with all the rain.?
