I read today that Leeds are playing South Sydney in jacksonville, USA on an American rugby ground and its a 10,000 sellout. Would i pay to watch an American Football match at the Stobart, I'm not sure. it does have some good points (cheerleaders especially) but its the length of time between plays that annoys me, a ten minute match takes three hours and i cant get my head around the rules.
Would any of you go and watch it and do you think it would be a sell out 12,000 capacity

Got cousins in Texas who visited us last year with their 20 something daughters. They attended a Vikings home game and absolutely loved it. They remarked how much faster our game was and it was nice of the club to announce that they were in the ground and to flash it up on the scoreboard.

So from an Americans point of view our game is loads better than theirs.

Cheerleaders are a bit silly anyway and are only there for eyecandy for the men who aren't powdering their noses at half time.

Depends who was playing. Wirral Voles against the Chester Centipedes. No.

Any NFL or even college teams, you'd be able to sell a ticket on eBay for thousands of pounds, bearing in mind they got 500,000 applications for tickets for the NFL Wembley game last October.

Best game in the world American football, for my money, closely followed by Test cricket (which, if we are talking about stop-start, takes 5 days and where there is an hour a day set aside for player's meals and 5 minutes per hour for drinks!).

Test Cricket is a social function.
American football is the same as Rugby League, but without those rules that make rugby league a great game. You can give a forward pass, obstruction is allowed, you can drop the ball over the line and it is still a score, and you can have a rest whenever you want. As well as that, it is a very slow game.

Was lucky enough to see the Seattle Seahawks v. New Orleans Saints last October. It's a great spectacle, not how I imagined, much better. And the 3 1/2 hours fly past.

Do you really mean that Steve ? From my perspective it is totally lacking in imagination - there is very little room for individual decision making and variation from pre-set plans. I started to watch it when it first came on C4 in the 80's but I lost interest fairly quickly - the whole thing is (imho) just too choreographed And the choreography tends to nullify any genuine skill factor. Don't get me wrong - they are fit and athletic (even the lads who weigh 20 stone plus are capable of covering 40 yards in around 5 seconds apparently but compared to League or Football or even(sorry Spelly et al) Union - admit it the All Blacks are good - the opportunity for individual initiative and flair just doesn't reach the same levels.

American Football does nowt for me I'm afraid.  Is there any term in any sport that is more un-appropiate than "touchdown" in this over-hyped game?

As I said, it does nowt for me, but I don't hate it. That word is reserved only for the 15-a-side code!

...remember Superbowl 42 is this Sunday on BBC 2 about half 10, 11ish. Or for the more priveledged customers, Sky Sports.
