I knew a Tommy Davies from West Bank who played, wasn't Percy's brother though, maybe he's a different one. There was
also Dougie Davies, another West Banker. Some great names from the past, well done Steve

I seem to remember a scrum half in the early/mid 50s named "Dai" Davies - could he be the Dougie mentioned above or is he someone else entirely?

Remember the front row of Rowbottom, Hayes and Tomlinson?

No,that was Percy Davies a relative of Tommy I believe,he was a scrum half,he's on the team photo that played at Wembley 1950 I think. Should be one in the museum, well worth a visit if you haven't already been. Dougie was another lad from West Bank,I think he played 2nd row, not sure. Wink Wink

I was sorry to hear of Vins passing, my abiding memory of him was standing in the cowshed with school-mates seeing him spot a gap
in the opposing defence and galloping over the line to score. He had a spell when was scoring more tries from second row than the
backs were! I think he may have held a club record for a try scoring forward for a while. Vin was a standout name in the forwards at the time and I'm just trying to recall who would've been packing down with him. There's a few names to conjure with, Jackie Hayes,
hooker, Ron Rowbottom and Charlie Wilcox props, possibly Fred Higgins or Freddie Leigh I'm not sure.

                                                                                   RIP VIN

Brother Derek was usually his second row partner.

There was a Tommy Davies transferred from Leigh, I guess that would be in the 70's.  He fitted my double glazing in the 80's.  I seemed to recognize him (he had a moustache) and owned up to being a Widnes player. Told me a story regarding Vinty K. who was then coach.  Apparently after his first training session with the 'big club' hev went for a pint in the Albion on his way home.  THe way he told it there were always girls in there hoping to 'pull'a player.

Next training session VK had a quiet word telling him 'there's nothing in there that will do you any good!'  That was his last visit, he said.  If VK said 'no' it meant NO!
