Standing proudly in line, old soldiers turned out yesterday to support a woman who has become their heroine.

Julie Lake is accused of slapping a teenager she believed had vandalised a war memorial.

She was given the guard of honour by more than 30 members of the local Royal British Legion branch before she appeared in front of a magistrates? court.

Mrs Lake, of Mangotsfield, near Bristol, denied two counts of common assault, one charge of criminal damage and one of using threatening words and behaviour.

Crown prosecutor Julie Copland said that Lake, aged 50, is alleged to have confronted two boys near a remembrance cross in Mangotsfield on December 11 last year.

She is accused of assaulting both boys and damaging a BMX bicycle belonging to one of the youths.

Lake was represented by celebrity lawyer Nick * ? dubbed Mr Loophole ? who said his client denied all the charges and elected to be tried before North Avon magistrates at Yate in south Gloucestershire.

The case was then adjourned to March 28, when a trial date will be fixed, and Lake was given unconditional bail.

Mr *, who is offering his services for free, has helped clients including Sir Alex Ferguson, David Beckham and Jeremy Clarkson following allegations of motoring offences.

He said: ?I took the case because I sympathise and empathise with her plight. My client denies all the charges.?

Lake, the daughter of a World War Two fighter pilot, was later applauded by the members of the British Legion?s Staple Hill branch as she left court.

well done that lady and the local RBL

We need more like this lady. We also need more policemen who will not charge people with defendingm our monuments, and magistrates who will throw out such cases that come before them.

My god, I'm glad you lot aren't on any jury.

Had she seen them commiting a crime?  What Evidence has she got?
Has she any right to take the law into her own hands?
If so, to what extent is she allowed to take the law into her own hands?

Again, the TIW has more evidence that the CPS - Vigilante rule, something to be proud of.

Its all about opinions, I expect the members of the Legion have it all wrong as well and the kids are squeaky clean, wicked old women hey. Suppose we shall all have to wait and see before we condem that sort of behaviour, otherwise the soft under belly of society will be on here screaming injustice.

Come on Jon, stop being so sodding rightous...  Wink

It's OK to bash the French, and it's OK for a little scrote to learn to bloody well behave and have a bit of respect (doing National Service maybe?)

No-one is going to tell on you if you vent your spleen on here occasionally  Grin

As long as well all remember its a 'Court of Law' not a 'Court of Justice'.  I don't have enough evidence to suggest who's in the right and who's in the wrong, and as no one from the wonderful British Press, the Legion or the police were present at the time of the alleged crime it would be hard to prove either way.

The only thing that there is evidence for is that she 'allegedly' (Innocent until proven guilty) caused criminal damage and attacked these kids.

Sorry for not believing everything that appears in the Daily Mail and Daily Express

No need to apologise Jon if you read those papers thats up to you, just take the broom handle from up your word and stop trying to be such a self rightous milk-shake. The general concenus on this thread  appears to be that people are sick and tired of listening to the looney liberals making excuses for little scrotes who vandalise this that and the other (alledgedly) Wink. I think most people are quite rightly concerned about the state of society as it now stands, were people defending their property or other peoples or just making a stand against thuggish behaviour seem to be on the sticky end of things. Its about time that the laws were changed to protect the silent majority. Of course  the rule of law must stand, but it needs common sense applying for a change. Of course no one knows the circumstances of what happened between the lady and the kids, but maybe we can offer opinions if thats okay with you.

Of course you can have an opinion - I'll have one too, if that's okay with you?

I tend to like my opinion based on fact rather than hearsay.  Until the facts are known we can only have opinions.

I've removed the broom from up my word, and I'm no longer a a self rightous whistler......so let the kids burn in hell because that, of course, is what the general concenus on this thread appears to want.

Hope that makes everything peachy in the world.

No Jon you dont, unless you can show us the factual evidence that you have that we all read certain newspapers as that is what you appear to insinuate (pigeon holes hey, great aren,t they makes life so much easier)....... you like to stick to facts when it suits and then just like the rest of us you form opinions based on, well nothing really, nothing wrong with that though we are on a RL message board renowned for its lack of hard facts on everything really, but it passes the evening.

Final say on the subject.

The thread was started by PeteH, who on different threads within this forum has posted links to both the Daily Mail and the Daily Express websites.  Therefore, as this thread was started by PeteH it can be assumed that he reads either the papers themselves or the websites of those papers (which of course he has every right to), but on numerous occasions their information has been flawed to produce a knee-jerk reaction.

My comments regarding papers relates to the thread as a whole rather than individual contributions.
