late 40s, touring side, I've been under the impression it was the Aussies but their fullback was Clive Churchill I and read somewhere a while ago that he was a kiwi. One for researchers I think!

Playing for us at the time was a certain Colin Hutton at fullback, some other names of the period I remember are Tich Anderson, Charlie Reynolds, the Naughton brothers, Fred Higgins, Frank Bradley,Freddie Leigh. I don't know whether Jackie Hayes was on
by then but those are a few names I remember, I was only a nipper at the time!!  Can't remember what I did yesterday though!
Maybe someone out there can shed a bit more light. Wink Wink Wink

Clive Churchill was Kangaroos captain in the 1950s, definitely not a Kiwi.

Was is the 1948-49 Kangaroos tour? Widnes were the last club side to play them and were beaten 18-8 in front of 10,761 supporters. GB won the series 3-0, with 40 000+ attendance for the second test at Station Road, Swinton.

Up to about the late 1960's, the Aussie touring teams used to perform a sort of Haka. They used to do it along the touchline on both sides of the pitch.

Mine was Wire away in the 1987/1988 league season. The official Wire video of the game appeared on ebay a couple of years ago, needless to say it is now amongst my video/dvd collection Smiley

About 1956/7, (my legs didnt touch the gravel when I sat on the wall ), Widnes playing a team in Red and white which I think was Saints. One of the Naughtons was playing and crashed into the wall during a tackle, as my Dad snatched me out the way.........hooked ever since. Went through several seasons home and away every game, buses and trains, up and down to Yorkshire still got the programmes........of course we didn,t have a lot else to do in those days though, life is so much fuller now in the wrong sort of way.

I can't remember my first game I was very little. But I recall the first time I travelled on the coach to an away game. I’d bin games in the car but this time we went on the coach to Featherstone. It was the Millennium double-decker coach. I went with my dad and when we got on there wasn’t two spaces left together, so I had to sit right at the front (which I loved as a child on double-deckers) and my dad was at the back, he kindly asked the man next to him if he could swap seats with me but he wouldn’t. turned out the family I was sat with had a big bag of food, and gave me loads Cheesy was a great day from what I remember. I think I was about 5 maybe 6.

Was 5 years old, only have very vague memories, but my first was the 93 semi V Leeds at central park. What a first game. But I only started going properly about a year later. Used to love sitting on the wall either in the cowshed or popular side, and then invading pitch after each half had finished.
