I suspect you're right about Bob Sherman, there were a number of our ex-players ended up at L'pool,he had the right surname as he
was built like a tank.He was a pal of Nev Chamberlain another local lad who played for Widnes.I'm just looking at a newspaper cutting
of the 1953 Widnes schoolboys team. There are some good players on it,Jimmy Bright,captain,F.Myler,B.Ryder,Wags Pinnington,
Mick Connolly,P.Cunningham,Bryn Thornett ect. There was a wealth of talent in schoolboy rugby in those days
Bob Sherman and Nev Chamberlain both went to WDGS, I was a few years behind them.
Bob had a younger brother - also "R Sherman"- in my year. I have a 'photo of the 2nd 15 dated 1956/7 which includes us both.

That they did Sunny,I think they were a year or two older than myself which would make them 69/70 now, would that tie in
with your photo dated 1956/57? Bob married the sister of an old pal of mine and I got to go to the evening party after the wedding
at the old Windsor Rooms in Victoria Rd where we were treated to Harry Dawson's rendition of Billy Eckstine's
"That Old Black Magic", one of his party pieces.A great character Harry and much loved by the Widnes fans.

I think that Bob and Nev will be over 70 now. I'm 68 later this year and they were probably 4 yrs above me at WDGS.
The photo I mentioned included the younger "R Sherman" (sorry I can't remember his first name, but he wasn't the "Bob" who played for Widnes) and would have been taken at the end of the season, ie early summer 1957 when we were all about 16 yrs old.

Sherman's lad Paul also attended WDGS in my year, leaving in 1978. Played on the wing in CC semi for Oldham against Wire.

I remember Nev Chamberlain --- a couple of years younger than me, so 72 would be about right. R Sherman -- I always thought it was "Rod".
