Thanks for your support but it is too late for this year. The Widnes & District Committee in their wisdom decided to go with the 8 teams and would not allow us a 2nd team We have the option of fulfilling the fixtures of any team that does not wish to enter this years competition.

If they are a seperate team ' Yes ' but what would happen if the Maries 2nd came up against the Maries 1st in the semi?

We have always said that we would give a list of players available to each team from the offset. All we want is a chance for the lads who play regularly in Division 4 to be able to play in the best local competition. We (to no avail) have said we would meet with any criteria including a playoff as a preliminary against any team including our NCL team. We were even threatened this year that because the competition was under North West Counties rules the committee could even stop our NCL side from playing. Hence a Widnes ARL Cup Competion that excludes Widnes amateur teams.

At this moment the vote is 9 for and 4 against. It would appear that the 9 for have posted a response. I would appreciate the 4 who voted against (and others in the future who vote against) to give their reasons. This might help us in our request to get in next year.

in my opinion yes the maries by rights should be allowed into the WC. HOWEVER in reality i do think it would be to hard to police properly with regards seperating the 1st teamers and 2nd teamers. it could cause alot of arguements and disputes from defeated oposition teams with regard te players true status. some teams still use un-registered players in this competition and in the leaue as was pointed out by someone in the "tigers v bears" thread. if the introduction of registration cards became a reality then it wouldnt be an issue. maybe that would be the way forward.

without wanting to offend saint,i would have to say against.1st reason is that excluding wsm 2nd team there is 8 teams to contest the cup which works fine,it would be a shame to lose one of these sides to a prelim to allow a 2nd maries team in.2nd reason is that the maries became the 1st (and last i hope) to be disqualified from the cup for fielding ineligible players.whilst this is in the past,im sure its still on the committees agenda.sorry saint.

Thanks Rock. However I can assure you that to decide who is first or second is very easy. Mr David Lowe NCL Administrator can supply (and does) a list of all players playing in NCL games. Once they have played 6 games they are FIRST teamers. It is as easy as that. I can tell you exactly how many games each player has played, tries/goals scored and number of mom's.
