Were your relatives in Widnes in the 1890s Chris?

Only I notice there was a Lines in the first team in December 1891. Not sure yet of an initial / first name.

PS. Just done a search on the census records and there were 19 of the beggars in Widnes in 1891, though I think we can safely rule out Charlotte, Elizabeth and Clara Lines!

Very promising prop forward I believe.  Grin

Yes. Have done a bit of family tree tracing and family goes back before 1890 in Widnes. Have yet to re-install Family Tree software after getting new computer but will hopefully get it sorted over weekend when I should have a few names and ages etc which might tie in.

Apparently Charlotte was rated the highest of the three  Wink Cheesy

Having looked again at the Weekly News, they couldn't make up their mind from one week to the next whether the bloke was called Lyons or Lines. But I'm pretty certain it's the same man - there's never a team with Lines AND Lyons in it.

Only once does an initial appear - A Lyons. But on the 1891 census there's no-one who matches that surname and initial whereas there are two Arthurs of the Lines variety who were of an age to be playing rugby. I might find other sources in the future to confirm that either way but that's the best guess for now.

Have managed to re-install the Family tree software.... traced as far back as 1826 to Bristol... but definately in Widnes in 1890's. Bit late now to delve but will have a look in the week
