It doesn't matter WHAT they had to gain, it matters that they USED illegal substances.
Their using becomes public knowledge, it brings the sport into disrepute, it gives an unspoken green light to other players, but more importantly it tells the easily impressionable youngsters out there that it's okay to be a user, it's all just a game to them.
Until all drug using is cracked down on heavily it will continue to be a bane to sport.
We will have to agree to disagree on this one then.
In general I havn't got a problem with people drinking too much, smoking too much, betting too much , driving around on a motor bike without a crash helmet , taking drugs or other types of self destructive behaviour as long as it does not affect or endanger other people.
Yes if they are illegal drugs they have to face the consequences as per the law of the land just as someone driving around on a motor bike without a crash helmet has to. But as far as i know Dave Allen has not faced any consequences as regards the law of the land. He has had his livelyhood taken away from him .Rightly for a short time but he has had his livelyhood taken away from him for exactly the same period as someone who has cheated not only himself but his fellow players and the fans. The RL didn't ban Kieron Cunningham for one day and the drugs he took were performance enhancing. Yes there were mitigating circumstances I believe but I also believe Dave Allen was an easy target.
As I say we will have to agree to disagree. I respect your argument I just don't agree with it.
