Quote
Steve Simms Salford football director, said:
"I believe that our case is the best and it's definitely better than the Widnes one.
"For starters, we have never had major financial problems and we have never ended up in administration.
"Salford have always been recognised as being one of the best run and most financially stable clubs in the entire game.
"We have worked very hard in readiness for being considered for the franchise. We are on the move to what will be the finest rugby league stadium in the country.
"We also have a great chairman in John Wilkinson, who has stuck by this club for the past 26-years and he continues to offer magnificent support.
"A key element of the criteria is to see a club firmly committed to the junior development of home-grown talent.

It looks as though Mr Simms is getting a bit worried.

Just posted this on the comment section on the MEN:
A great argument from Simms. Salford have dug up a hole in the ground and they think that they've got a world class stadium!
Maybe Simms should consider a more professional approach, and worry about his own club other than others.
You don't hear the chairman of Widnes
mars-barring
off its rivals, but merely supporting Widnes' own application.
And it's funny that the supposedly two shining lights of Salford's youth development - Nash and Myler - both came through the Widnes academy!

In my experience, the MEN website simply ignores negative comments - but good luck anyway !
As to the ludicrous claim - well the great Jim Royle puts it perfectly : MY

Well said. Talk about 'my dad is harder than your dad'
What a twonk Mrs Imms is
Fact of the matter is, Leigh aside is that people are aware of the strides we are making and it is clear people see us ahead in the race to be in SL, and they can continue to use that berk at the MEN to fire bullets, desperation stakes if you ask me.
I just hope we are noble in all this and don't resort to sly digs in the press.

How the hell does Simms know what is in our application?
Short answer - he doesn't and he's running scared!

Thing with Leigh is they are doing what we are - talking up their own application.
Fair enough they also put sly digs in - but why shouldnt they? Leigh have planned ahead for the licences and got their grounds sorted. How many years have Salford been talking about a new stadium?
And if they dont get in SL, will they get one? No chance.
I firmly believe that they're gonna wait until the licences are decided upon until they decide whether to build a ground or not!

And another thing, Steve
galaxying
Simms, what the
galaxy
has he ever achieved in the game?
From a poster on rlfans.com taken from the Salford Advertiser.......
Simms has also moved this week to quell any unease that fans might have that the turnstiles are acting inappropriately. Some fans have experienced hearing a 'double click' when they enter the ground. 'We would like to re-assure fans that this is perfectly normal and intentional by the club and we are simply 'making sure' that your attendance is recorded.'
Quite apt Mr Simms that you have started site clearance for your ground, with the hole your digging for yourself son, you best go for a career change and drive a digger.

When will Salford's new stadium be up and running?Half way through 2010,thats if it's on schedule.Surely their application would be better suited to 2011.
''For starters we have never had financial problems''-Yes.....and...is that it,is that why Salfords bid is much better than ours?
For starers, come on Mr Simms, whats seconders.

You'd have to say that, leaving Celtic and Toulouse aside, Mr Simms sounds rattled because he must know that Salford are vying with Castleford and Wakefield for the title of "Least-compelling case for a Licence".
I have no more against Salford than Swinton as a Mancunian outpost of the game, but the preponderance of Yorkshire teams from the top flight, and no Leigh, Widnes, Salford or Cumbrian team, means that a strong, viable, popular and well-resourced 'Lancashire' team in addition to our 3 nearest neighbours is a must. Salford and Leigh will never, ever have big crowds. Widnes might not either, but then they might, because you just don't know what new rabbits Mr
Stobart
O'Connor will put out next in terms of fashioning a Widnes club that is independently viable.
