Right I have been led to believe that in years gone by we had a fair few stations within widnes. I know a lot of this was to do with industry. For example the line that ran between St Helens & widnes dock (please correct me if I am incorrect). Read up on there being one in Ditton which only stopped being in use for public in 1990ish,, and  have heard something similar regarding Halebank? Huh Huh
I think we only have Farnworth (widnes North) and Hough green nowadays.

This is a great site. If you have a few days to spare, get on it. My local Station was Tanhouse Lane, and there are some great pictures.

Monton Green Station was about 200 yards from my house. It's lonnnnnnnnnnnng gone now, and where the track used to run, is now called "The Walks". The golf course is on one side, and it's tree-lined throughout. Very picturesque when it's sunny.

My nearest station now is Patricroft, which is on the main Liverpool Lime Street, to Manchester Victoria line, and it's about half a mile the other way from my house.

You can still see the entrance to the old station in Victoria Road, Widnes, next to the old Players club, it's hidden behind the billboard as you go down towards West Bank.
I can remember going down Spike Island years ago and where the garage is next to the entrance in Croft street you could see two or three huge steam engines just rusting up in their back yard, they were there well into the 70's.

Just had a look on the website, I can vaguely remember some of those photos, only 'cos my Dad was a relief landlord for Greenalls and used to cover the Central pub as it was local and he could still work full time.
When we stayed there I can remember waking up to one railway line being used (the one that is still there) and the disused line right next to the pub.

Who is the girl on the platform at Tanhouse Lane? There is a topic to go at!!!!

I remember all the stations, and used to go into Liverpool on Friday nights stright after work from Widnes Central.  Interestingly Widnes was the first town to have double decker 'buses, as there was only one railway bridge to go under. [1907].
