I remember the game, but not the score. I think it was one of those typical high scoring friendly game scores where nobody cares anyway.

According to my records, Widnes lost 15-34.  I remember going to the game but that's about all.

If my memory serves me right, one or two of our "A" teamers, including Colin Rigby, played for Great Britain.

The 1979 (1980 ?) testimonial for John Burke, which I think the ebay item referred to, finished 34-15 to the GB XIII.

I've got the match programme, I'm pretty sure Widnes won, and the year was 1982.

Two different games are being confused in this thread I think.

The original Ebay listing was for

Widnes v 1979 GB Tourists XIII (John Burke testimonial), Tuesday August 21st 1979.  GB XIII won 34-15

but there was also

Widnes v GB (Mick Adams testimonial), Sunday August 15th 1982.  Widnes won 13-5

Does anyone remember a game taking place at Gossages rec between a combined Widnes 1st & A team and  a BARLA XIII as a warm up for the BARLA lads who either going on tour or playing tourists? I'm sure it was in the mid 80's and it was Steve O'Neills first game back after breaking his leg at Wigan in same game as Steve Rogers broke his.

I have no recollection of the game, but there was a BARLA Open Age tour to Australia in 1986 and I think Ste O'Neill broke his leg in the same game Steve Rogers did (22nd Sep 1985 at Wigan), so the dates probably fit.
