My first final was Western championship v Workington at Wigan which we drew. We lost replay which I missed asit was on a weekday afternoon. !964 Wembley was first trip to the twin towers . At that time it was the happiest day of my life when we beat HKR in CC final. Many more great teams and finals. I was lucky I could afford to go to the finals.
For me best moments were wembley 1964 as it was my first Widnes final at wembley when I was a youth of 14.Beating  Wire in 1974 took it close too!
Best performances for me by the team
1. World club championship win in 1989, what a game and what a night.
2. Wembley performance v Hull KR 1981. Burke and Gregory Final.
3. Premiership win at Leeds v Hulli n 1982. Hardly any Widnes fans went as they feared a defeat and on TV. I travelled alone  from Lake District and returned there that night then returned home late Sunday night. A week end booked before the final!I stood amongst a crowd of yorkshiremen but shouted my head off. One of Tony Myler's great displays.
4. Second half display away at Lleigh in Northern Ford premiership semifinal, it far surpassed the final v Oldham for me which got us into super league.

so many others but for me those were the best 4.

I was there too. Have to agree, Tony Myler's performance on that day is the reason I rate him as the greatest player I have ever seen.

I Rate our premership victory against Bradford with 12 men as being up there Tony Myler also came off the bench that day and tore Bradford apart in the second half

I rated Tommy McCue as the greatest player ever for Widnes ----- but what a pair they would have been!

One of my most memorable Widnes games was a defeat. Not only were we beaten but also nilled into the bargain. It was a cup quarter final replay against Leeds at Headingley in 86.They won 5-0,two penalty goals and a drop goal but our defence was absolutely astonishing that night.Leeds must have had about 65% posession but they just couldn't score a try against some heroic defending. One tackle in particular stands out in my mind.Leeds created a midfield passing move and loose forward Heron found himself in the clear,30 yards out straight in front of the posts with no Widnes player in his path. The crowd was on it's feet, roaring and cheering, already celebrating the 'try'.Just as Heron was about to touch down beneath the posts he was sandwiched in between a double shoulder charge from two Widnes players and the ball jolted free.Breathtaking!

Just about the best tackle i've ever seen from a Widnes player would have to be from Adam Hughes in the dying seconds away at Salford in 2002. Salford player (i forget who) racing down Hughes' wing only for him to drag him into touch just before he put the ball down. Went to the video ref decision which ruled in Widnes' favour and we ran out winners (just!).

An unlikely choice i know, from a player who seemed to stop making the effort in later seasons, but none the less a brilliant piece of defence.

The rougly 1% I missed was a lancashire cup final v Leigh I was on holiday. I also missed Trains cup final last year at Blackpool as I was ill that day. Alos as stated originally missed Western final replay in early 1960s as on a Wednesday afternoon at wigan before flood lights and I was at school then. I have seen all the other glories though, what a privilege! The 3 Premiership wins at Manutd were special too as was the one against Bradford at station road. So many good moments.
Someone mentioned a tackle from Hughe' s above. ray Duton game after game although nott the fastest full back forced the attacking player to the touchline and 9/10 nailed them into touch. I remember some crunchers from Vinty and Shaw and Moose too. Make sme shudder even now.

Although the Wembley appearances were something special, for me, season 1988-1989 will probably never be equalled.

Wining away at St Helens 44 - 16

Beating Wigan at home 32 -18 in front of 16,000+ fans

Tait

Thackray
Currier
Wright
Offiah

Myler
Hulme

Sorensen
McKenzie
Grima
O'Neill
Koloto
Eyres

Plus 2 subs from Jonathan Davies. Barry Dowd, Paul Hulme, Derek Pyke, Paul Moriarty, Dave Myers.

That season was a privilege

A 38-0 trouncing of Leeds at Headingley, Feb 91 or thereabouts. You tell this to young people today, they think your off your rocker.

I was also at that game (stood in the South stand) and I had a clear view of a disallowed try that we scored. The Myler brothers worked together and I cant remember which way round it was but one of them touched down under the sticks at the Pavillion end only for a shocking "forward pass" decision by the ref ruling it out.

I remember the incident Scooby.I was also stood in the south stand and like you say,it was never a forward pass.John Myler went on one of his weaving runs about 25 yards out,in front of the posts.John never had great pace or even a sidestep but he could beat two or three players in quick succession by swerving in the opposite direction to the on coming defender, which he did on this occassion.Collared by a last ditch tackle he flicked out a pass to to his brother Tony, who was steaming onto to the ball at full pace and 'scored' under the posts.Too quick for the ref,who deemed the pass forward.Cracking game though,an old fashioned cup tie with both sides going at it hammer and tongs.
