There's an interesting article in today's Guardian, which gives a lot of column inches to Salford. See here:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/apr/28/rugbyleague.superleague

It ends with an invitation to Widnes fans, among others to respond. Thought people might like to know about the invitation!

Tarry is talking out his backside.

If Salford dont get a franchise, the stadium wont be built, FACT.

They're trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. Idiots.

The point about the other national league one clubs not wanting a Super League side in their competition is hilarious....  That is the biggest clutch at a straw since Kerplunk was invented...

Also nice to see the usual sly digs at Widnes with the stuff about bad management and local authority bailing us out.

Salfud are disgracing themselves with these continuous digs. It was nice to see SOC being complimentary to them in Sunday's programme and rising above this nonsense.

His arguments are so poor it's hardly worth replying but I'm going to anyway.  Sure, no NL clubs want "SL" clubs in their competition - who needs those extra fans turning up and paying?  Gee, I'm sure Dewsbury would say "Sorry, Salford and Widnes, can you get lost with all your fans and stuff, we don't want you coming here and being able to sell the big game to our own fans as well and making loads of extra cash from your travelling fans".

Foresight shown by the club?  Sure, it's 2008 and you are playing in pre-war standard facilities.  Lots of foresight shown there when lots of other clubs have been playing in decent grounds for a few years now.  Who cares where the money comes from? Private or public doesn't matter.  In fact, getting your local authority on board is surely better than selling out to big business who will demand a return on investment as they don't give a toss about community development and RL, they just need to make money.

The fact is, Salford know that they currently get beat on franchise 'points' not just by Widnes but by Leigh as well.  They are worried.  Their entire SL franchise bid rests on the 'Manchester' thing and a stadium that is a consequence of getting a licence, not a precursor to an application.  Sly digs at the opposition are exactly what I'd expect from a club that is very unproffesional in its approach to visiting clubs and fans, with PA announcers having a sarcastic pop every now and again rather then making everyone feel welcome.

Ah well, as pointed out, our club managers do well to rise above this sort of thing.  Leave it to us fans to get stuck in and pull apart their arguments!

I had a good laugh at that point too Chris, but you comparison with Kerplunk is even funnier. LOL That has cheered me up.  Grin Cheesy

I love all this anti-Pinks stuff that you mob are coming out with! Are McRae's Mob replacing Wire as your No.1 hates?

The site of the "ground" has been flattened-ish. All the trees / bushes etc have gone, but nowt further seems to be happening!

It's about a mile from where I work, and about two from where I live, but it might as well be a million, coz as with W(e)aste, I'll only ever set foot inside the place (if it's ever built of course) if my beloved Lions are there!

Spelly.

iS Mr Tarry honestly expecting us to believe that Salford are building this new stadium as a strategic long term investment and not the fact that they NEED a new stadium to get into SL. In an interview on Boots n All he said they would fill their new stadium, didn't realise it was going to be 3000 all seater!!

Spelly, I'll answer this question for you from my own point of view.

Previously I had no problem with Salfud... one of my colleagues is a salfud fan and he's a decent guy. However the spangles that Simms and Tarry have been spouting in desperation has changed my opinion and I now hold them in great disregard.

They are crass and and lack credibility as representatives of their sport. Only Wilkinson seems to do them any credit by focusing on their bid without trying to slander anyone elses.

In short... They are not far behind Warrington in my opinion.

Hi Spelly,

Have you seen any notification in any news outlets as to who has been awarded the contract to build this fabulous development?

I haven't.

Strange eh?

If it wasn't for a certain Mr Wilkinson pouring his money into the black hole that is their ground, there would not have been a Salfud for many years.   The same goes for many other clubs in SL and NL's.   Even we would not be around if SOC hadn't ridden to the rescue.

Even some of the Salford fans are uncertain about the " New Stadium "

I was talking to a Salford fan at the Lancashire V Somerset game who lives very close to the " New stadium ".

He reckons they may still find something dodgy about the land, which has numerous tests to determine just what lies beneath the surface.
