I was in work earlier. Talking to an Irish bloke who lives in London. He asked "Where are you from?" I said "A little town just outside Liverpool called Widnes!" He said "I know it well. They've got one of the best rugby league teams in the world!"

A similar thing has happened to me. Have moved to a small village near Cambridge and when asked where I was from answered in the same way but got the same response!!
Trouble is, they only remember the 70's and 80's!

No they're not. The current gold price is £28767 per kilo. If you take an average SL centre, say George Carmont, 91 kilos, that works out at £2,617,797. No-ones worth that
galaxying legendary! Post of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strange you have said that. I work at sea on ships. I have sailed with loads of people from all over the UK, and when they ask me who i support and say 'Widnes' I get the same reaction, " Oh they win everything don't they" and " Don't they have one of the best teams in the country". Obviously, I agree with them, and say we are the best! It just goes to show, that despite our fortunes of late, Widnes is still held in high regard nationally and considered a big club. I was recently working in the Carribean on a cruise ship and was suprised to end up talking to an american passenger about widnes rlfc!

Our fan base was one of our plus points last night, and considering our average attendances are better than Celtics and Salfords (are they in fact the best in the league does anyone know??) then how on earth do they (other teams) feel, and what effort must they put into improving attendances??

Our home games are lacking because the 'stay aways' are the 'glory hunters' and they'll be back when and only when we're back in Super League.......end of.

And what is wrong with people wanting to watch super league? Its obvious the crowds will increase if we are in super league We need people to support our team even if its for only one or two games per season so whats the problem?

Because the world needs to realise that they all need to be true supporters and not only walk to every match, no mattter where it is played, but to attend all training sessions, rain hail or shine, for forty years. Then, and only then, will they be able to suggest that one of turnstiles at the ground creaks when it is turned - and even then only if they can recite the name of every person who has worked on the turnstile since the ground was opened. Didn't you know that the entire world are actually Widnes fans and they are just punishing the club by not showing up until we are in SL

Yes I did!! He had his arms raised to cheer or clap and it showed the ladder down the side of it!! We do have a London Viking on here I am sure, maybe it was his moment of fame!

It wasnt my moment of fame sadly, Im back up in Widnes at the moment due to a death in the family but I do try catch Quins games! Loads of people in London know about Widnes, I constantly have chats with Aussies round my area about Widnes. Alot of them have a soft spot for them. Roll on Thursday, will the first game ive been in a while!
