widnes under 18s academy lost this evening to st helens by 36 pts to 4pts at the widnes rugby union club.to be fair widnes blooded several new youngsters , but st helens travelled here minus several of their most gifted players.after the early exchanges widnes were never going to be in the game ,despite moving the ball across the field time and again there was very little penetration in the saints defence and as the game progressed the widnes boys become more confussed by lack of ideas or game plan. as from my post on the leeds game I highlighted our  weakness in defence on our right hand flank indicating we required to tighten up here, but guess what happened?, all seven of st helens tries were scored down our right hand flank. it is probably to late now to address this as they only have one more game left this saturday at home to warrington ko 2 30pm at widnes rugby union ground .best tonight for the 18s academy were grant gore, lee hudson, alex gerrard. widnes consolation try was scored by center ryan mcpaul.  good luck to all the boys for the future though hope you can turn it round next season with a little bit more experience.

I've watched 18's a few times this year, i always anaylse their game as being a bit off 1st half, good 20mins spell of 2nd half and then fall off again for last 20mins.

Occasionally it has worked for them when they aren't conceding many points in the first 40mins, unlike tonight.

By all accounts though, Saints are very good at this age group & travelled without a lot of their main players tonight.  I was surprised to see some of the Widnes lads out of the team though that have been playing well in recent weeks - Danny Hulme was there tonight but not selected.

Fingers crossed they end season with a win on Saturday.
