I have noted on a couple of threads the ironic use of "adequate" as this is how the RFL described the Stobart in their review of SL applicants stadia - I must admit I missed this at the time. Does anyone have to hand comments on other facilities in particular Salford, Celtic & Wire? or maybe a link

Wanderer, if you go onto the RFL website and click on the 'about us' tab then the licensing tab, there's a summary of all the SL applications.

I had a look at the RFL site and a summary of some of the stadia comments is below:

BRADFORD BULLS
The Coral Stand offers good hospitality but the remainder of the stadium requires improvement and there are some development plans.

CASTLEFORD TIGERS
Whilst well maintained, the ground is limited and old fashioned. However, the club recognise this and has relatively advanced plans for a new stadium. Financial projections are based on the new ground, although there is evidence of a Plan B.

CELTIC CRUSADERS
Whilst well maintained, the ground is limited and old fashioned but there is a commitment to immediately enhance the current facilities. In the medium term the club recognises the need to develop a new facility and appears to be working with the local public agencies to deliver this.

SALFORD CITY REDS
Whilst well maintained, the ground is limited and old fashioned. However, the club recognise this and has relatively advanced plans for a new stadium and are on site. The Willows offers good corporate facilities and disabled facilities.

WAKEFIELD TRINITY WILDCATS
Whilst well maintained, the ground is limited and old fashioned. However, the club recognise this and have plans for a new stadium. These are not as far advanced as might be the case despite projected occupation by 2010 and evidence of a Plan B would have been beneficial.  !!!

WARRINGTON WOLVES
The club plays in a quality new stadium which in all but one or two aspects is excellent. Further ground improvements are planned and although financial projections are challenging, the club has a good record in this area.

WIDNES VIKINGS
The stadium is an appropriate size and well appointed following significant investment in recent years.

WIGAN WARRIORS
The club is playing in an excellent stadium and attracts good attendances. hahaha

Interesting that Wire's ground is considered to be excellent but the Stobart is of appropriat esize and well appointed.

Also, I wonder how further advanced the various advanced plans are? Pre-announcement day there where press-releases, hard hats and excavators everywhere.  It has gone awfully quiet now.  I await any furtehr developments with interest.

It is quite clear from the results of the Licensing procedure, that the relative importance given to Stadium facilities was very low in the decision making process.

Surely this should have been made clear at the outset to all of the club staff and directors, the media and commentators, and (dare I say it) the fans, who all appeared to be labouring under the illusion that modern, comfortable facilities were a VERY important aspect to the relative bids.

And not just this years franchises!!!
This has been preached by the RFL for years now and Salford, Wakefield, St Helens and Castleford chose to simply ignore it and it might just go away!!

And strangely enough................it did!!!!

Didn't Lewis actually say on Boots and All or somewhere that Wakefield need to do something with their ground or their success in the next franchise round can't be guaranteed? Words to that effect

The whole thing including the comments on the grounds was just spin.
The decision was made prior to the launch of the franchise procedure and the whole procedure was an exercise in spin to justify that decision.
What they did not expect was the Steve O'Connor takeover and the excellent ''irisistable'' bid Widnes put forward.
Faced with the facts they had no choice but to play down our bid and try to find fault thus they ended up with the nonsense of calling the best purpose bulit primarily Rugby (as opposed to football) Stadium in the country ''adequate''.

Yes he did.
But they have said things like this many times before and they don't mean it.

That's right and if they kicked out Wakefield on the basis of their stadium then out will go Salford, Celtic, Cas and even St's. I don't believe all if any of this clubs will have a completed stadium in 2 yrs time, they will all still be building or promising stuff. But hey that's good enough for the RFL.

Saints would never go because they tick too many of the other boxes however the other three you have metioned on paper at least had an inferior bid to ours.

These clubs have to do something or they might all be at threat of losing in the next franchise bids although CC will probably get anothre three year stay of execution because someone drew a sketch on the back of a fag packet!

Either that or throw their toy out of the pram "I'm going to take all my money and put it in tiddly winks" or something like that. The RFL will not let that happen.  Roll Eyes
