Looks like Wakefield ar elooking at plan B:

http://www.wakefieldwildcats.co.uk/stadium-announcement-i604447.html

"Wakefield Wildcats are disappointed to hear that for various reasons the proposal for a Community Stadium at Thornes Park has been unsuccessful.

It is our understanding that the feasibility study findings on a Community Stadium in Thornes Park show that the project (which includes an eight lane swimming pool, sports hall, 150 station gymnasium, training fields, redevelopment of the park, transport links, running track refurbishment etc) would be difficult to deliver both from a cost of £60m and an end date beyond that of the Super League requirements for a licence after 2012.

We are in discussions with the local authority to find a solution which will satisfy these cost and date issues."

Oh I forgot, they don't have a plan B !!!

Will the RFL be brave enough to revoke their licence though?Huh Even if they did (which is highly unlikely) there is not a chance we have a squad that could compete in SL. I think this is just another form of bullying by Richard Lewis to get Cas and Wakey to possibly merge!

I think if the RFL had any bottle they would refused Wakey and 1 or 2 others a license in the first place, IMO they just chose the easy options.

Wakefield put together a very attractive proposal. You must remember That Mr Lewis of the RFL believes firmly in drawings on paper rather than the bricks and mortar.

Spotted this on RLFans. i wonder if we may be 'invited in' - don't hold your breath!

I don't wish any misfortune on Wakey but it must be said that any 'new stadium' announcements must have been hogwash to start with.

It has been said many times before but we will probably see more announcements like this in the near future - especially in the current financial climate.

Well, would you believe it! Funny how so many chickens are coming home to roost so soon after the franchise decisions. Well done Tricky Dicke & your cronies. You've been completely hoodwinked. It doesn't say much for your judgement, does it?

All these new Stadia, in the planning process, all on paper, will all have difficulties in delivering. Could Wakefield merge with Salford, St Helens, and Castleford to produce one stadium on which they could all play?

Spot on mate. As the RFL said in their summary about the stadium at the time of the franchise decisions:-

'and evidence of a Plan B would have been beneficial'.

Surely during the selection process the RFL would have delved deeper into clubs proposals for new stadia, and not just took their word for it? I'll reiterate what I said in another thread, " if the RFL had any bottle they wouldn't have given Wakey or 1 or 2 other teams a license in the first place", so they sure as hell won't revoke their license now.

Don't know if it has already been mentioned...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_league/super_league/wakefield/7610795.stm

Wildcats suffer stadium setback

Wakefield have been hit by the collapse of their plans for a new stadium.

The Super League club were awarded a three-year licence on the promise of a move to an all-seater, community stadium on the outskirts of the town.

But the local authority said the project would be difficult to deliver within the £60m budget and by 2012.

Wakefield Council has pledged to investigate other options, which could include a stadium-sharing arrangement with neighbours Castleford Tigers.

Both clubs need to move into new homes to retain their places in Super League after 2011.

The Thornes Park project included an eight-lane swimming pool, sports hall, a 150-station gymnasium, training fields, redevelopment of the park, transport links and running track refurbishment.

"We are in discussions with the local authority to find a solution which will satisfy these cost and date issues," said a Wakefield spokesman.

Belle Vue has been the home of the club for more than 100 years.
