Does anybody know how much of a contribution Stobart make towards the stadium?

Reason I ask is, I've tonight been at the Wire FM Awards evening held at the stadium, and the stadium manager and the presenters were referring to the stadium as the Stobart Stadium Halton, e.g. it's correct name. One of them said "we'd like to thank all the staff at the stobart stadium for getting everything set up" blah blah.

Then the mayor of Halton comes on, supposedly to introduce the awards, and she goes on a big rant saying "actually it's not the Stobart Stadium, the stadium is wholly owned and operated by Halton Borough Council. All of the staff and people who work here are employers of Halton Borough Council."

It was quite embarrassing really, but it was really quite a dismissive attitude of Stobart, who I assume must be putting a few bob in to the ground.

How odd  Undecided

Its not as if Stobart claim to own the stadium, they just sponsor it don't they? Thats how I understood it anyway.

It seems very strange for the mayor to react like that though - maybe she was opposed to the deal when it started.

Maybe she was just totally ignorant to the arrangements between the council and Stobarts i.e. As far as she knew it was still called the Halton Stadium? I mean how many Widnesians still call it the Autoquest? Poor show either way whether it was lack of knowledge or something more sinister.

How many Widnesians still think of the ground as Naughton Park?  Probably ignorance, as you might expect from a member of the Chain Gang.

Perhaps she should look at the council website http://www2.halton.gov.uk/ as it has clearly stated in a linking box on the right hand side of the home page "Stobart Stadium Halton"

Sounds to me like she just has a massive chip on her shoulder about something...

The chap, his name escapes me at the moment, from the council was fully behind everything going on at the ground. I'm assuming she also forgot to mention the significant investment made to the ground by Mr O'Connor too.

Maybe there's a current trend of thick-as-pig-manure mayors in the country at the moment?

She'll be ranting about "wiff waff" and floating airports next!

What is the Mayor's Name, and which ward does she represent.
I guess she is Labour.

Perhaps the Mayor as the representative of HBC thought it was incumbent on her to emphasise that the stadium is owned by the Council but from what King Viking says it appears she should have expressed herself a little better.
