VAT
« on: 01 December 2008, 14:58:25 »

Will the new seaon's shirts previously price at £40.00, be reduced to £39.00 because of the reduction in the rate of VAT to 15% from 1st December 2008.

Interesting question.

Also affects the price of season tickets as well.

The price announced was £39.99 so should now be £39.14, however I guess the club will just increase there margin rather than pass on the reduction of VAT. Not right IMO but I would guess this will be the same in a lot of businesses, I bet if you went into B&Q for example today and priced something you knew the price of last week it will not have changed. Think this will be the same in other places too.

Over time it will change but the cost of repricing everything on the shelf would simply cost more than the money that is being knocked of it (unless a significant amount).

I bought my paper today and still the same price it was last Friday when really should have been 1p less. Has petrol dropped this morning to account for the reduction in VAT?

Probably wading into off topic territory here but petrol, beer and a few other items will be staying at the same price as the government are upping the duty to take into account the lowering of VAT..

Newspapers are zero rated, so there's no VAT to pay, and with fuel, even though the vat rate was reduced, the levels of duty were being increased to compensate, so again there shouldn't be any reduction for that (from memory, the same thing was being done with alcohol and tobacco).

Correct - Plus National Insurance is going up 0.5% too. In one hand slowly and fast out of the other!

You're pretty much spot on there.

If you're struggling for cash and hoped this would make a difference to the necessities (food, fuel etc), a lot of food is zero rated so it won't affect it, fuel gets its duty increased.

The people who benefit are the ones with money to spare who can afford the "luxury items" that vat is meant to target.  Meals out, drink, new cars etc.

Probably best to end this part of the thread though, or maybe a mod can split the part not talking about shirt and season ticket prices to the offtopic board.

Despite the lower rate of VAT Carlsberg Tetley have increased the price of their beer as from midnight last night, adding around 5p on a pint and 10p on FABS.

Have you contacted the Club and asked them?

Actually, I bought something from B & Q today and got a couple of quid off.  The marked prices are still the same, but the reduction is calculated at the till.

I know that Warrington have took the price of their shirts and have made them 2.5%VAT cheaper.

I'd rather let the club keep the money to be honest.

A pound each or so to us can collectively make a big difference to the club

I think the question was asked rather tongue in cheek.
