Arrived at ground with 10 mins before kick off last night and shock-horror, there was a fence around the 'car park'!

To explain, I, and about 50 others have parked on the 'green' area behind the East Stand for years - so how much of a shock was it to find that the council have fenced it off to stop us doing it! Surely people parking on there for two hours or so every other Sunday (!) for six months, totalling on my fingers about 24 hours out of every year, does not justify the council spending £££'s on a fence! Killjoys!

So, now I have that off my chest, can anyone please advise where I can park my car - and please bear in mind that it is a car which is often 'targetted' by jealous kids, so it needs to be in a reasonable well-lit area!

I have seen cars parking on the playing field car park at the corner of Lower House and Dundalk, but is there anywhere else without needing a taxi?
Thanks

It has nothing to do with the council putting that fence up, its down to me and the Kingsway tenants and residents assocation! We got funding from WREN, Neighbourhood Management and the local area forum to fund this.

This field is not a car park, its somewhere for the local kids to play on. And yes i do realise its only for 2 hours or whatever it is, but you and other car users gradually push the kids off that field when their playing there. Its all about safety. It will be a community garden where the young kids can play safely, it will have some seating dotted around and we are having a 'planting' session next month. Its all about community engagement and thats what these residents want.

Last season a OAP was run over by a car user coming off the field, fortunately, he wasnt seriously injured - but he could have been and it was through residents coming to our meetings and complaining about fans using it as a car park that prompted us and community development into doing something with it!

You could try parking on the car park behind the college where its well lit or you could park at Asda!

It's the same mentality as the people who park on the 'road' sections of the Morrisons / Market car park, rather than park in a proper space and walk an extra twenty seconds  Angry

When I go to the match I park on one of the streets that surround the 'green'...  think it's Brunner and Mond Roads, and Squires and Wavertree Avenues... I just park with a bit of consideration for the residents driveways, and I've never had a problem there at all.

Quite right LV. We felt we had to do something with the half moon field before a serious accident happened and then its too late.

We even have the backing from the Police to do this, they think its a good idea.

And we're not being 'killjoys'

You can park opposite the new Health Centre on Moor Lane (Moor Lane Business Centre), its a 5 minute walk to the stadium and you dont get caught in any traffic after the game.

You don't wherever you park these day's. Grin
Anyway, why should the council continuously maintain that green area with fresh turf and/or re-seeding after vehicles' tyres have left muddy holes in the ground.

LOL ! Some idiot will though.

Car drivers these days seem to have a severe case of 'I pay my road tax, so I can park in your garden/drive/pavement' Oh, and while I'm on about it, most of them forget how to use their indicators the minute they pass their test too.

I have stood and watched a group of kids trying to play rugby on the half moon after a game and it was alarming to see how many times some of them nearly broke a leg after falling into a tyre rut. It's about time something was done there to protect the kids and prevent the nuisance to the homes there.

I cannot fail to impressed with the powers of the residents association.

How happy you must all be with yourselves.

Perhaps if you keep saving up you might be able to afford to do something to stop all of those evening fixtures keeping your young children awake at night!

Or you could even use your police support to stop the local brats scratching the sides of cars parked along the local streets so that people would be more assured to park there.
