I suspect this had more to do with residents not wanting loads of cars parked outside their homes than the welfare of the kids playing on the green, mentioning children's welfare is always a winner in such arguaments. However, i agree it will look much better as a nice green space with gardens. It's not the biggest piece of land to begin with though is it? so i just wonder exactly how much of it will be left for the kids to play on once the 'planting' is finished. How long will it be before the 'no ball games' sign goes up i wonder?

I have been known to park on the green from time to time and it is convenient, but losing it as a parking site isn't gonna cost me much sleep, i usually park on the Caldwell Rd carpark anyway and don't find walking from their too much of a hardship. I will be sad to no longer see cars park on the green; perhaps the last remaining nostalgic link to the old ground gone. But never mind, onwards and upwards i suppose.

That post is too sensible for this thread.

I know the piece of land very well - and is very rarely used as a play area.

The residents would have more credibility if they simply said - we don't want cars parking on the area. Suggesting the kids are suffering does nothing for their argument

A good post yes. In fact, if we think about this along those sensible lines there will have to be a "No Ball Games" sign on the new play area for simple limitation of liability, otherwise the council could be said to be promoting the playing of ball games on an area surrounded by roadways.

Good size for a five-a-side pitch though, have already been talking about getting a couple of teams down there for a kick-around, might even get enough for a tournament.....

LOL ! Some idiot will though.
Car drivers these days seem to have a severe case of 'I pay my road tax, so I can park in your garden/drive/pavement' Oh, and while I'm on about it, most of them forget how to use their indicators the minute they pass their test too.
I have stood and watched a group of kids trying to play rugby on the half moon after a game and it was alarming to see how many times some of them nearly broke a leg after falling into a tyre rut. It's about time something was done there to protect the kids and prevent the nuisance to the homes there.

When I lived in Widnes I used to walk to the game from the various houses I lived in. The furthest away was Moorfield Road. It was easy to park, but you couldn't have a few pints in the Bradley on the way home!

Arrived at ground with 10 mins before kick off last night and shock-horror, there was a fence around the 'car park'!

To explain, I, and about 50 others have parked on the 'green' area behind the East Stand for years - so how much of a shock was it to find that the council have fenced it off to stop us doing it! Surely people parking on there for two hours or so every other Sunday (!) for six months, totalling on my fingers about 24 hours out of every year, does not justify the council spending £££'s on a fence! Killjoys!

So, now I have that off my chest, can anyone please advise where I can park my car - and please bear in mind that it is a car which is often 'targetted' by jealous kids, so it needs to be in a reasonable well-lit area!

I have seen cars parking on the playing field car park at the corner of Lower House and Dundalk, but is there anywhere else without needing a taxi?
Thanks

STEVE
We are merely supporters of a Rugby club, the residents around the ground have lived there for years and have to put up with the problems that living near the ground come with.
I appreciate that yes, they chose to live there however we should still respect their right to a private life and decent quality of life.
I like you park around the ground, however I choose to PARK LEGALLY and not intrude on any residents property or "grass verge"
With regards to the damage of your car, do you honestly think that these residents have bever suffered damage by away fans??
And to finish.......... if you cant walk 2 minutes to the ground to see the team you supposedly love then you need to be asking question of your loyalty!!!!!
