The thing about dummy runners Peter is that we never used them at Widnes under Ste Mac
Its a part of the game that we need to introduce if we are to score more trys from our possession

McCue, Shannon and Millington always had a dummy runner, but the opposition never knew which of the three had the ball!

The major change IMO is that 'the game plan' is cast in stone nowadays. Players don't seem to be given (or have the ability) to think on their own and adjust their play to suit. The 'creative' half back is in very short supply and in most SL games is non-existent. The ability to chip/grubber defences is lost because the six tackle rule or the non-competitive scrum makes possession a priority.
Hence we have the five drives and a kick from most teams, not only SMc. The flat attack is dead and that, accompanied by rush defences, leaves no space for a runner to take on his opposition with room to manouvre.
Time for innovation!!!!!
