The below quote is from the Doncaster section of RLFANS - I think this fairly represents the majority of comments on there, many of which ask questions of the stewarding.
Well...what a memorable game.
I went down to the Queens end (unknowingly) expecting to see points scored by the Dons. When after a short time all that took my attention was some Queens supporter arguing at twenty metres with a WOMAN.
Fair play to her she gave as good as she got.
I don't now what kicked it off....but he wouldn't leave it and he was old enough to know better.
She moved away eventually with her friends....and I said to two stewards that passed that they ought to sort him out.....nothing happened.
It was festering, bubbling and boiling.
The stewards got them to sit down....but only briefly. They rushed forward with every Queens attack and there they stayed banging on the hoardings, intimidating, threatening.
By the time steward intervention happened, police were needed. By the time police intervened...riot police were needed.
They tried to placate them...big mistake, and that's why firm stewarding should not be criticised.
Queens should forfeit the tie and action against Queens should be taken.
There should be no recrimination against the Dons.
On the field Queens were good...but they incited the crowd which was unforgivable.
They were also dirty at times. How Handforth wasn't crippled I don't know. They scythed him twice with trips.
The best thing that happened was that the game was abandoned....even though I would have liked to see it played out... the potential for more disorder was rife."
---Some quote! The argument mentioned with a women would appear from other posts to have been a drunken Queens fan who hit a child and then stood arguing with a heavily pregnant woman who tried to defend the kid.
I don't think I have ever heard of anything like this for many yearrs!

I was reading some of those posts myself earlier steve, gotta say that i was shocked myself by the severity of the trouble as it would appear to have been. By some comments the queens players also had to be told to return to changing rooms more than one time as they were making their fans worse in a way.
This to me highlights why police in attendance is missed as they were always at games when i was young, in greater numbers for bigger games than they were at regular games. Even so the point being if a couple police officers had been there they could've arrested this bloke and removed him before it got out of hand.

Am not saying the Doncaster fans are wrong to blame the stewards in part for the problem. But these idiots will cause trouble stewards or not. Stewards and police always take the blame in these situations its never the fault of the IDIOTS who start the trouble is it.

Tezley, I know what you are saying - but some of the Doncaster fans are pointing the finger at their own club as they say there were only about 10 stewards who were unsure of how to deal with a drunken bunch of fans. In fairness to your comment it sounds like more an issue of steward leadership than individual steward problems.
...and as you say, the fans were to blame either way.
Are Queens in the same league as Normanton???

The Maries has recently played Queens twice, a very physical side on the field but the do play well and are very hard to break down......but their supporters are something very different. During a bust up on the field the Maries scrum half got sent off, he had left the pitch and was on his way to the dressing room when a drunken Queens fan ran at him, verbally abusing him and then threw a beer glass at him, needless to say there was a bit of trouble amongst the home and away fans. I believe, and i may be wrong, that Queens are from a pretty rough area of Leeds and it shows. It had said to my parents on the way down to the Widnes match tonight that there may well be trouble with the Queens fans tonight. They also fought with Bank Quay a couple of months back. Not a nice lot people.

The doncaster rlfanc.com forum also claims that the police were called in by fans and not the stewards. It seems the stewards were out numbered and probably not properly prepared

funny, we were talking after our game about Queens. I have never seen them (nor do i want to after this!!) but a few blokes mentioned the maries incident(s) and said there would be bother. Bad to see in our game at any level, and given their past misdemeonours Queens could be in a bit of bother.

999 times out of 1000 putting a fluorescent jacket on a bloke off the street and paying him £6 an hour is something you can get away with. The problem with that of course is that they are not trained or designed to deal with fighting. Stewards at most grounds are only capable of asking essentially fairly decent people to modify their behavior when it comes to firmer action you either need police or the bouncer type stewards that say Bradford certainly used to have.
