I heard the other day it is to be turned into a place of worship.

Not sure if this is true but has anybody else heard anything?

Seriously??? At the last census Widnes is quoted as -

"At 1.2% the proportion of non-white ethnic groups in 2001 equalled the lowest in all local authorities in Cheshire"

I wouldn't have thought there would eb a need for such an establishment?

Surely some one could open it up as a music venue so people could hear live music. They could put on all kinds of nights from rock nights, big band nights, disco's for the youngsters notold enough to go to a pub, blues nights even jazz nights for the ones who just like to listen to musical notes not played in any particular order.

I'm sure that is more than enough for the PC brigade to feel the need to display yet more (un)equal rights!!

Are they all Muslims, though?

Be an odd decision to use a pre-existing building, that could be of some municipal use, for a mosque.

there is a group on facebook that has been raising money etc. and are looking to re open it as a music studio.

this is their statement from face book...

Type:
Entertainment & Arts - General
Description:
Since 2004 when the Queens Hall and The Studio closed meetings were held, decisions made. and LOOSE (a not for profit music collective run by volunteers) plotted and planned to get the venue open again with the support of local people.

Now after all the signed petitions and a great deal of unrelenting hard work, LOOSE has now been successful in securing ALL funding for repairs and refurbishment off the building.

So this group is for those who supported the project and for those who don't know about it.

If you have memories off the Queens Hall or The Studio then post them on here.

My understanding was that LOOSE had secured the Studio, which is at the back of the Queens Hall and the entrance is on Lacey Street. This is a small performance space which could put on local bands or plays. Remains to be seen what happens to the Quees Hall.

I'm old enough to remember that before the Queens Hall existed , there was a place of worship on the site! Methodist Chapel if I'm not mistaken.

Isn't that still there? Behind the Queens Hall on corner of Lacey Street and Luton Street there is a little chapel. Not sure if it is Methodist though pretty poor from my point of view as I was born about 80 ft from it in Luton Strret.  Grin

Yes it is a spooks church now where you can go and try to get through to the rich uncle and ask him where the money is.
