Surely there would be a greater call for a Jedi church in the town than a mosque??

I recall Jedi is listed as the 4th largest church in the country after the last census, or something close!

I heard the other day it is to be turned into a place of worship.
Not sure if this is true but has anybody else heard anything?

It used to be a place of worship before they changed it into Queens Hall!

Harry Palin --- blast from the past! He used to work at the Brum at the same time as I did --- early sixties.

Harry worked in the Warehouse at the Brum in Ditton Road [Birmingham Corrugated Iron Co.] and unfortunately I had to sack 10 labourers at the Works Manager's orders. I did last in first out, and Harry was one. I was told that it pushed him more into wrestling! That was in 1961, and the worked closed in 1962. Other well-known people who worked their were my old mate from St Maries, Mick Naughton, and Ronnie Campbell. I must be older than you as the baths had not been built long then! My wife [of 42 years tomorrow] is now planning my 75th Birthday Party!

I remember harry palin "fighting" steve young in what was billed as a TEXAS DEATH MATCH at queens hall . After a couple of rounds harry was thrown from ring and steve young jumps out of ring to finish him off, harry then decideds to crawl under ring to get away from Young. When the pair of them appear from under the ring harry has gashed his head and theres blood everywhere. The pair of them get back in the ring and the "referee " calls a halt  while harry,s gash can be treated. Now steve young is in his corner with his back to crowd when a very obliging gentleman reaches into steve youngs bucket removes his bottle of water which by the way is a large ben shaws glass pop bottle and smacks steve young over the head with it and sparks him out, theres even more blood over the ring now and because the crowds going wld and harry,s still on his feet the "referee" makes harry the winner!!!.Next thing the police are in the hall arresting steve youngs attacker and he is given a standing ovation while being escorted out of the building!!!

another thing about the queens hall ,the "BAR" was way too small for the amount of people it could hold. That i think was the reason the sun closed down after the queens hall shut as many a time i had to get the beer from the sun and take it back across to the queens hall when attending do,s. Grin

this is their statement from face book...

Type:
Entertainment & Arts - General
Description:
Since 2004 when the Queens Hall and The Studio closed meetings were held, decisions made. and LOOSE (a not for profit music collective run by volunteers) plotted and planned to get the venue open again with the support of local people.

Now after all the signed petitions and a great deal of unrelenting hard work, LOOSE has now been successful in securing ALL funding for repairs and refurbishment off the building.

So this group is for those who supported the project and for those who don't know about it.

If you have memories off the Queens Hall or The Studio then post them on here.
