The couple that own the company that makes Fishermens friends throat sweets were robbed the other night and spent the night locked in the bathroom. I know they must have been terrified as one of the burglars knocked Mr Lofthouse to the ground when he tried to keep them from his wife, but how do you lock someone in a bathroom surely the lock is on the inside.

I think all bathroom doors now have to have a lock on ithem that you can open from the outside. So yes you can lock it from the outside but you can still unlock it from the inside.
Mind you if some one raided my home and threatened me i think i would stay put in the bathroom and i am a lot younger than the Lofthouses.

may be the thumbturn on the latch was removed, this would leave a hole which unless you had a chubb/star key you wouldnt be able to escape, thinking about it surely they had a window I am sure I could muster the strength to pull the cistern off the wall to smash it but then again suppose you just stay put! Luckily a few weeks ago when we were broken into they left us asleep!!

Our bathroom has a lock but the key has been lost years ago.  Our house is an old one built before inside plumbing and the bathroom is a former bedroom. All the doors have locks on them, including the downstairs rooms. The outside loo has a suffolk latch. I think it all depends when your house was built.
