Yes, it is definitely a hoax! But there is some theoretical truth behind it for those who care!

Mobile phones do emit microwave energy, although it is a tiny amount compared to the domestic oven! In the workplace you may have heard of microwave emission testing, by which microwave ovens are tested generally around the door to ensure harmful microwave radiation is not escaping. Should more than 5mW/cm2 be emitted then it is for the bin! Testing a phone can read about 0.5mW/cm2. so considering a standard domestic microwave is 800W to make popcorn pop it would, in theory, require 1,600,000 mobile phones to create such power! (counted on fingers, apologies if a decimel place out!)
