Just why do are lightweight wingmen expected to drive the ball up the middle?   We have 6 forwards and normally 3 on the bench to do just that.   It is not as if the forwards play the full 80 minutes these days, they are rotated on a regular basis.   In "the good old days" you would have needed a tractor to get the wings off the touchline.
Last night my brother who has only just started going to the games again with his son, said exactly the same thing, too often the wingers are used as lightweight battering rams, nothing against deano, but in the first half he was given the space and didn't have the pace to go for it now imo if that had been Mills he would have gone all the way, because of our lack of size in the pack we need to have the pace out wide and use it .

Gaskell's our best forward.  Ok sometime he runs sidewards but he always beats a man and that must be energy sapping for the other team.

Its a sorry state of affairs when your wingers make more yards than the forwards.

loz also plays centre or 2nd row so the bench covered many options. Though thompson had best game in widnes shirt. Ste mac used 2 swap props after 15 to 20 mins every game. P c seems 2 do it when he judges the prop 2 be flagging. Arguments for both. And it worked. We won a difficult game against a good team.

Fair enough then  Cheesy why 2 fullbacks on bench?

Dodd can play Fullback and wing.
Wildbore can play fullback, wing, centre or in the backrow.

It's all about versatility.

We had 3 halves on the field. So what.

If Smith, Thackeray or Webster gets injured, Duffy can fit right in there.

If Duffy goes off injured, Varkulis can go into the backrow and Wildbore slips into the centres.

Again, it's all about versatility.

Our wingers did a lot of work last night in attack so therefore with a game plan about speed around the ruck you will need people who can slip into the backs to give breathers.

......Mills can be lethal in this league, jus give him time and a chance to play

he was pretty lethal for the eagles last season, I think he should be given a chance and lets see what he can do....

Instead of who? Gaskell or Flynn?

In fact, it looked as if Gaskell had hurt his thigh muscle when he can off, so may not be fit next week thus possibly giving Mills a chance if he is preferred over Dodd.

Remember the front row of Rowbottom, Hayes and Tomlinson?

Yea I mean how often do Fullbacks, centres & wingers need a rest!

Starting the 3 halfs means we don't get the 'fresh legs' at half coming on so defeats the point! We have too many ball handlers throwing it wide without anyone to actually 'earn the right to go wide' in the centre!

Wingers aint gonna sap up big forawrds enegry just scooting! Yes when we have a roll on they can be devastating but when there line is set your just running into a brick wall! As the only full pro side we really should be looking much fitter in the latter periods... whilst also being quicker at the start of games!

Please don't tell me we are the 'first of many' to start resting backs instead of forwards  Undecided

I think Flynn is taking the ball up far too much at the moment, at one point on Saturday he was given the ball on our 20 and he almost fell into the tackler he was that tired, maybe the reason he didn't skin the full back when he was clean through and had a one on one?

And that is where the problem lies!! Wink

Mills and Wildbore could be loaned out leaving salary cap space for a prop! Needs must!
