A friend in work gave me a copy on DVD a few weeks back, when I eventually got round to watching it, oh what great memories!!

I was so suprised at how fast the game seemed for 20 years ago and some of the skill and ball handling was awesome!

I bought mine just after we won it (sorry if I have spoilt the surprise Robbo Wink) and what always amazes me is the amount of gaff's Ray French and Alex Murphy make in commentary. I keep meaning to make a note of them and post them on here but it would take hours to pause the video and scribble down each one.

The best one to get is the Aussie version, the commentary is classic.  They go from mass hysteria on how good Canberra were to incredulity and excuses as we rip em apart in the second half

Agree mate, I wish I still had my copy but the tape snapped years ago.

Would be great if anyone had it on DVD, they would make a fortune on here, the commentary was fantastic.

They even got the names right and stuff, something Murphy and French couldnt do!!

I remember the Aussie commentator saying 'what a ball from Grima to McKenzie' for Paul Hulmes try.Not sure who actually made the pass though, whether it was Grima or Pyke.

There was no 10 metre rule back then. The game was about skill, slight of hand and not just about how big, strong and fast you were. Also, if you remember, the old Mitre balls used back then were like bars of soap when wet. Most of the players in "Super" League are not fit to lace those players' boots. Back then we used to ridicule Rugby Union for allowing forward passes, but nowadays, some players have more yards than Joe Montana. Its embarassing. And dont get me started on tries from kicks.

Todays game is far superior to that of the 80's! If Our Widnes side of then played Manly of now we would be on the end of a 50+ point mauling!

With the exception of fitness I couldn't disagree more.

Is there a winger in world rugby as good as Offiah?
Kurt and Joe would be able to mix it with any props playing.
McKenzie would excel in the modern game.
Eyres and Hulme would hold their own in the back row.
Tait is the best FB I've seen play the game.
And if any player in the modern game has got as much skill as Myler I've yet to see him.

While it's hard to compare teams 20 years apart, I'm sure if the class of 89 were playing now, with the current training methods, they'd be up there fighting it out with Leeds and Saints for honours.
