With the exception of fitness I couldn't disagree more.

Is there a winger in world rugby as good as Offiah?
Kurt and Joe would be able to mix it with any props playing.
McKenzie would excel in the modern game.
Eyres and Hulme would hold their own in the back row.
Tait is the best FB I've seen play the game.
And if any player in the modern game has got as much skill as Myler I've yet to see him.

While it's hard to compare teams 20 years apart, I'm sure if the class of 89 were playing now, with the current training methods, they'd be up there fighting it out with Leeds and Saints for honours.

Fitness= Pace and power that is what the modern game is all about, with all the will in the world Kurt, Joe  and Pikey would have a cat in hells chance of playing in todays game and if you think otherwise you are very much deluded

I remember watching the video of the Widnes v Wigan Challenge Cup final (I think it was in 1984) with the likes of Gorley, Elwell, Burke, Lydon and this team played the full 80 minutes with NO substitutes and the players where still running strong at the end.

It's so easy to decry the older players saying they wouldn't last in todays game but I can see Elwell, Gorley, Burke, Gregory, Lydon and lots of others from that team still making it comfortably in the modern game.  Skill levels go across the eras.

I am sure someone here will be able to give me the full squad for that day.

Well, finally got to watch it last night.  For those who don't think these blokes would cut it for fitness, remember the fact that their was no substitute rotation and that most of these players stayed on for the full 80 minutes.  And with good skills.  You don't get to play in a team like that without having something about you.
I had forgotten that Andy Currier had actually played for Balmain against Canberra in the Aussie 89 grand final.  It would have been interesting if Balmain had got through.
And now at least I know who the team where that day.  Heroes every last one of them.

You make a poor point about Kurt because for a prop he was great athlete and was pretty quick.]

There's no substitute for skill.
