Disapointing when clubs can't play their home games at home.
No matter what spin they put on it.
Good one for fans who like to tick off their Rugby Grounds.

THUNDER HEAD TO DARLINGTON
Gateshead Thunder are to play their historic fifth-round Carnegie Challenge Cup tie against Oldham at the Darlington Arena, home of Darlington Football Club, on Saturday, May 9.

The Gateshead International Stadium is unavailable that weekend so Thunder, who are in the last 16 for the first time in the club's history, took the decision to make more history by staging professional rugby league in County Durham for the first time.

Chief executive Rod Findlay said: "Gateshead Thunder has always been a rugby league club for the north-east and not just Tyneside.

"This is one of the most important matches in the club's history and we are delighted that we have been able to secure such a prestigious venue."

What a load of claptrap from Gateshead.  Hopefully as the game is a cup-tie they won't be able to inflate the attendance with free tickets.

I like "doing new grounds", so I reckon this is another that I'll be able to add to my rather extensive list!

Why do they not call themselves Tyneside Thunder --- or will that stop the Wearsiders attending?

Since when?Since they couldn't stage this tie at Gateshead?Don't think that qualifies as 'always'.Claptrap indeed Reg but what else would you expect from one of Lewis' cronies.

Are they even a club for Gateshead (never mind the north-east) given their crowd of 651 on Friday against Featherstone?

The other 4,000 got lost and finished up in the Metro Centre.

You mean like Salford's finish up in the Trafford Centre?

Second time Darlington FC have gone bust in the past five years.

Gateshead have played at a few other places over the last few years - they've played at Newcastle Falcons ground, Gateshead RU ground and I think one or two other RU grounds as well.

they will still be a front runner for SL in 2012, along with Toulouse, after all it's what the RFL want isn't it and when you look at Celtic, what the RFL want the RFL get....by hook or by crook.

They have to reach a final first, something I can see neither side do, particularly Gateshead.

So they had to switch grounds for one game no big deal...other teams have done it and will do it again in the future its a downfall of having to share a ground.

They're not the first club to go "on the road", and they won't be the last!

Off the top of my head, apart from Thunder, I can name.............

Saints at Anfield, Pies at your gaffe, Dewsbury at Batley, Bradford at Valley Parade, Oldham at various, **Sheffield** at various, Us at a lot of places  Embarrassed

I'm sure you can come up with more, but, for a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge bonus point.................

** Our first four games against Sheffield (two home, two away) were played at four different venues - Name 'em please! **

Spelly.
