Watching lots of footy games (as I have to in this family) I wondered why they don't adopt the RL method of "stopping the clock" for injuries etc.
Not only does it sort out the added minutes at the end but add to the excitement as the fans count down.

The problem with football is that the ball could be in play for 10 minutes at a time, where as in rugby the games not offically over till the balls dead or a tackle is made. The debate then continues in football, when would the game actually be over ? say there was a corner after the hooter went, should the game end there and then or wait till the balls been cleared etc...
but i can understand what your saying.

It's already the case in MUFC matches isn't it? 

Fergie's time, seems to take preference over the the ref's time, on all occasions!

But thats the same when the added time is over. The ref blows his whistle when best suited. So I for one think it could work.

In effect they do do this. The ref stops his clock for any stoppages or time wasting he then tells the 4th offical how much time was wasted, this is then called stoppage time. The 4th offical and the announcer then inform the fans just how long stoppage time is 1, 2, 3 mins etc.

The fans can then just look at the stadium clock (most must be digital by now) and see how long is left of the extra 1,2,3 mins etc.
