Reserve and Academy line ups for sunday

The Vikings reserve side get their league season underway tomorrow with a fixture against Keighley Cougars at Heath Rd, kick off 2.30pm.

Head Coach Dave Banks has the luxury of being able to a field a pack all of whom have had first team experience with loose forward Lee Paterson making his comeback from injury sustained in the Rugby League World Cup, whilst Steve Bannister continues his rehabilitation from a broken leg.

Widnes' line up is; Kennedy, Wright, Thompson, McPaul, Scott; Dourley, Hudson; Houghton, Robinson, Mullally, Strong, Bannister, Paterson, Subs: Bradburn, Smith, White, Wood-Hulme

--------------------------------------    --------------------------------------------   -----------------------------------------   --------------------------------------------   -------------------------------------------------   ----------------

The Vikings' Academy side begin their home league campaign in the Gillette Academy tomorrow morning with a game against Wigan at Heath Road.

Having led Saints last weekend until midway through the second half, Head Coach Stuart Wilkinson will be hoping his charges can perform for the whole eighty minutes and claim their first points of the season.

The team is; Hayward, Crompton, Doolan, Anderton, Skinkiss; Gore, Hulme; Gerrard, Lunt, Davies, Banks, Smith, Schleiner. Subs: Carney, Oswald, Bury, Burgen.

Kick off time is 11am

One for Yoda to answer probably...   but is that the same young man I saw playing for Chester Gladiators last summer in the Merit League?

I can confirm it is (although it is spelt Skinkis if we're being pedantic!)

Top player though and very quick , I have had the (dis)pleasure of trying to catch him in training.

I think you will find that it is not called an Academy team any more it is the Reserve Team to allow 1st team squad players to regain their match fitness and for returning injured players to get fit again.

Nice to see a young player involved in either the summer conference or merit leagues getting an opportunity...  best of luck to him.

I agree LV, there is loads of talent in these leagues which is largly overlooked (or ignored).  I have read many times on here and other forums that the summer games are a waste of time or comments like 'I dont see the point - its not as good as the proper amateur season' - well here is a very good example of 'the point'..... a young lad wanting to try rugby league in an untraditional area and now hes playing for a pro club!!

And I think if a lot of the people who have this snobbery against the summer leagues actually went a watched a few games they would be pleasantly suprised at the standard of play.

On a Sunday!

lol... was talking about the Summer Conference and Merit Leagues, which are generally on a Saturday... although the first Runcorn fixture is indeed on a Sunday this year.
