I am delighted to announce that the second Trust in Widnes sponsored Battle of the Bridge will take place at the Pavilions this Saturday, 2.30pm kick off.

As last year, there will be a Trophy for the winning team plus a bottle of Champagne for the MOM

A big thank you to the Trust for organising the sponsorship at such short notice.

Congratulation to Widnes Saints, winners of the Battle of the Bridge II in a tremendous game at the Pavillions in Runcorn this afternoon.

With the defending divisional champion Saints side quickly opening up an early lead, the Runcorn side gave little indication that their ranks contained far less top level experience than the visitors from over the water, and they came right back into the game, narrowing the Saints lead to just two points at one stage.

Only as the game got into the later stages did the Saints side start to break down the determined Runcorn defence, running in a few late tries to make the victory margin a bit more comfortable.

Once again Trust in Widnes were delighted to be involved with the 'Battle', and on behalf of the Trust I'd like to thank the Runcorn club for the hospitality extended to both myself and cheadleviking, it was fantastic to share in your first game at your new Pavillions home.

For anyone who doubts the entertainment value of the Summer Conference competition, I can only suggest getting along to watch either of these sides in action and giving them your support.  Both sides have home fixtures next Saturday; the Runcorn team entertain last years divisional runners up Lymm at the Pavillions, whilst the Widnes Saints host the league new boys the Wigan Riversiders, who looking at their line up will have a side packed with experienced players from Wigan based teams in both the NWC and NCL.

Thank you to Trust in Widnes for sponsoring the match.

A great game played in great spirit considering the local derby status of the game.

I am proud of what we achieved on the day especially the efforts of the Runcorn players competing for long spells with their more experience counterparts from north of the river.

Well done to the Saints and good luck for the rest of the season.

have to disagree with LV, thought this was a poor game of rugby! The Saints started the better but Runcorn responded well- The Saints had almost 40 players to pick from and could of picked a much stronger team, and this nearly backed fired! Fair play to Runcorn they kept going and going, the young stand off played really well ( looks to be one for the future ) Peter Clarke was another stand out player from the Runcorn side. As for the Saints Craig Milly was probably the best.
The Saints will need to up it this coming sat against a much fancied Wigan side!

The point is Kev, that you have 3 choices during the summer, Runcorn, Widnes Saints or shopping.

And to be fair, if you choose Runcorn or Widnes at least you will see passion and fire, better than our professinal friends at the moment.

Well put CJL we need rugby not shopping. Also bear in mind Halton offer 2 summer teams which is more than can be said of St Helens, Wigan Warrington etc.
