Just like to say Congratulations to my Albert Park team mate Mike Randall on the tremendous achievement of being named NWC League Division 1 player of the season.

This will be announced as part of the NWC annual Sportspersons evening this week which I expect Simmies and Moorfield will be well represented at as league winners to collect their trophies and medals.

It caps off another great season for Mike who played Prop in every single game and was constantly named MOM by the opposition. It comes on the back of him being named Widnes Amateur Player of the year last season and NWC Division 3 Player of the year the season before. He has also continually won a host of other awards at the Albert Park Sportpersons awards night and I am sure that will continue next week when we have our annual evening.

Amazed no one has put him in their Widnes Amateur dream teams for this year as he would definitely get in to any amateur side.

Hope he has a top night picking up his deserved award.

Regards

If he was to go to say Simmies/Maries everyone at the Albert would be disappointed as hes not only obviously our star player but also a top lad who always trains and never gets above himself.

But your amateur playing time is only short and if hes really ambitious & wants a shot at winning the top prizes then in all honesty its likely to be with the 2 clubs mentioned. Hes certainly good enough to play for them and if he did go he would go with everyones best wishes from the Albert (as well as getting some stick).
I might add the club have not been informed by Mike he is leaving and it is all rumours.

Everyone hopes he stays and we continue to progress as we have done the last 3 years.
Albert Park want to continue to go forward and will be looking to attract more and better quality players for next season and push forward and gain promotion to the Premier Division next year. We were only a couple of wins off this season and beat the 2 teams who will be promoted.

With a years experience in division 1 we will be well prepared for next season.

I will also add Albert Park are continuing light training (tick and pass) on Thursday nights throughout the summer starting this Thursday. Training is at the Parklands club 6:30pm start.
Note: There are no changing facilities for the next month or so as the club benefits from the Halton Ladies Grant to improve facilities substantially at the Parklands.

well done- it'd be a shame if he left- i don't know him but i follow amateur rl from afar, but he comes across as really enthusiastic on this board and enjoys where he is; so often, when a leading player leaves a club, others follow and it ruins the club. i hope that doesn't happen in what is a great rl set up (should still be the tigers though!)

it has always bugges me, ever since i was a kid, when players leave to join better clubs

Why? If a player (ANY player) has ambition and drive, and believes he has the qualitites to make it at a leading amateur club, then why is it wrong for him to have a go?
Is it fair to keep him at the same club in the lower divisions for years & not win anything or have little or no chance of gaining representative honours? There's nothing stopping them going back to their previous club if it doesn't work out.

And for the record, the Rock left Simmies to join the Albert!
Well done though mate, and you'd always be welcome back  Wink

11 of the 17 players that won the Champion of Champions Cup on Saturday all played their junior rugby at Simmies before moving up to open-age, 4 players signed after been released from pro teams, and only 2 players came from different amateur clubs.

Don't know where the myth comes from that Simmies "poach" players from other teams  Roll Eyes Huh

Excellent, will you be able to say something similar in ten years time?
