As others have said recently, the sentiment sounds good, but in reality its cow-spangles. Anyone who was at the game today will know that the team couldn't possibly have recieved any more support. Even when mistakes were made and tries were conceeded the fans shouted and sang as much as they could for Widnes. Of course moaning about this that and the other won't make things better, but also shouting, singing and pretending everything will be great at the end of the day won't make things better either.

The bottom line is that time after time this season, this Widnes team have lost matches they could/should have won, maybe not all of them, but we haven't won any of the games where we know we have to raise our game to win. Scraping wins against the bottom sides of the division and then backing that up with poor performances against everybody esle is not going to endear the team to the fans. Just as in SL and last year against Celtic its a possibility that sooner or later the fans patience will run out. To be honest I think most people have been very patient already, I mean halfway through the season, we're cola, the season is basically over and still no major upset or anger.

To put it into some sort of perspective, if we do finish in the bottom half of the 2nd tier competition, where exactly does that rank in terms of worst seasons in Widnes history? maybe not quite as bad as 1997 or 98, if Widnes only were ever out of top flight from 1996, its certainly would have to be up there in the top 5 worst Widnes seasons ever - never mind eh, get behind the team yay.

I will be and have been as supportive as I can muster but the worst sight for me at any rate was the open warfare within the team and right in front of their own fans.

Quite simply that was a disgrace, and something that eats away at their support base.

Training problems aside there are enough seasoned professionals there to pull together and make a better show than they are.  If they are turning up with an attitude of more aggression towards their own team mates than towards the opposition then we are sunk, right now.

Gannon is the only player who, for me, acts like a leader, and probably should be captain.

After much thought I agree with you.

I watched the game again today and identified a lot of positives that we can be proud of:

Thackeray proved himself a very good winger and his class showed when he made the one on one on his own line which led to Osticks try
Thompson showed glimpses that he can actually keep hold of the ball in the tackle
Ostick and Gannon held their own with the Leigh pack, unfortunately they only played for 40 mins and the other 40 we were left with Laurel and Hardy
Bannister proved he can kick at goal
We managed to keep Ian Watson out of the game for the whole of the half time interval

After all those positives I am going to change my holiday plans and go to the game next week and buy 7 instant dream tickets instead of my entrance fee.

Haha people are having a say on what is happening on the pitch and off it, it just so happens that we are not exactly getting showered with positives at present, people are spending money to support there club leading to frustration from most fans as our expectations again have been stretched by the alledged class and calibre of employers at the club!

Why do we always revert back to having a go at each other on here? Its as though we cant make any observations and then comment on them without being ridiculed for pointing these out? The message board is here for exactly that, giving an opinion your entitled to.

We have to accept that in the eyes of some fans the team can do no wrong, but there are also fans who can see there are problems within at the moment.

That's garbage. I think every fan on here can see that there are problems, it's just that some choose to be constructive about it instead of trotting out the same anger filled, finger pointing repetitive tripe week on week. That's what people have a problem with, whether people are entitled to venting their spleen or not, the same few spouting their ill informed nonsense is getting beyond boring and they need to really get a grip, or follow the glory hunters that support man utd if they can't handle the rough times with the Vikings.

I feel sorry for those widnes fans who also support liverpool, now these are trying times!

Watson uses the Edwards ploy of kicking from well behind his line, rather than Duffy who is in the line and has his kicks charged down.  Players who are to follow Watson's kicks drop back and run onto the kick.  We don't look as if we practise the chase bit.

For me Duffy looks shattered.  He was on form after the World Cup but it has caught up with him now.  Better IMO to rest him for a bit, play Thackeray and Webbo in their normal positions (novel for Widnes I know!). Paterson is gaining fitness and will support Thackeray.

If Tyrer is not fit let Grady play centre.  He may not be the fastest but he tackles well, is good under the high ball.
