>widnes reserves went down today at sheffield by 25-24 .(after only beating them 90-16 a few weeks ago .granted there were huge changes in the widnes ranks today.but i do wonder what is exactly going on within the club when we loan players out to other clubs , then we find we ourelves are struggling to put a competant team on the field, as todays reserve side contained no fewer than 7 academy players, 2 trialists and adam bowman making a return,it proved to be quiet a daunting task, as sheffield fielded a very large side with a huge pack of forwards coupled with 2 exceptional half backs who totally outplayed their widnes counterparts.it was a very disjointed performance from the widnes boys, poor passing, wrong options taken very weak tackling in several areas of defence.despite these problems widnes pulled themselves back into the game from being 24-12 down to tie the score at 24 all, with only 4mins remaining, but the referee had other ideas ,a widnes player was tackled just inside the sheffieldhalf when the ball was clearly ripped from his grasp, resulting in a knock on being awarded , sheffield forced three quick drives towards the posts ,and popped over a drop goal. widnes did have 2 chances after this, but a knock on 5yrds out, and yet again another awful call from the referee pulling out ruling widnes had knocked on . game over.summary of the game the step up for so many academy players at once was to much , the referee allowing sheffield to get hands in and rack the ball out of the tackle on a number running into double figures.poor options and weak tackling. scorers tries gilmore, thompson, bradburn, lunt, goals 4 tom smith widnes team 1 scott, 2 wright , 3 thompson, 4 bowman, 5 kennady, 6 gore, 7 bradburne, 8 wood-hulme, 9 t smith ,10 burgen, 11gillmore, 12 j smith, 13 white. subs 14 oswald, 15 lunt 16briody 17 azibioge best backs kennady an thompson forwards wood-hulme an t smith. reserves travel away next saturday to barrow 2 30pm ko.
