Not according to RL Fans Forum. It says Thatto had the weakened team!

Thatto Heath 32-10 Widnes St.Maries

A big and experienced looking Maries had the best of the first 20 mins as a very young Heath side coughed up too much ball in bad field position, however Heath were the first on the scoresheet through a try from certre Johnny Hughes, Shaun Quinn added the extras. Maries replied with a converted try and it was level at half time 6-6.

After the break Heath, with the breeze at their backs began to complete their sets a lot better and ran in some excellent tries. Under 18's scrum half Kenny Hughes scooted over from dummy half, converted by Quinn to take the score to 12-6, Quinn himself crossed next showing some excellent footwork to take it to 16-6. Heath's confidence grew and antoher Under 18 in Gaz Molyneux's sublime pass launched Kane Gaitau through a gap to race 40 metres to score the try of the game in the corner 20-6. Next came a try from debutant Mike Saunders as he finished off after good work from Keiron Maddocks, Quinn converted to make it 26-6 before another debutant in Dave Roughley scored after brushing of a number of Maries tacklers, Quinn converted to make it 32-6 and the game was as good as over. There was time for the Maries to get a late consolation through the number 14 following a series of soft penalties.

The future looks bright for Heath as this young, raw side contained 6 lads aged just 18 and only 3 (Quinn, Maddocks and Andrew Stott) that had played more than three 1st team games last season.

I still cant see the point of the Maries playing in this comp at all.

I am presuming it was optional as not all teams appear to be in it?

If so why would you chose to go in it when your already running a summer team and in turn jeopadising their chances of success?

I'm sure Saint will correct me if i'm wrong but the NCL Summer Conf is not optional whereas the Summer Conference (Runcorn's division) is.

I for one applaud the Maries for what they are doing as without their entry into our competition we would only have 6 teams in the division, maybe less the way Rhyl are going at the mo.

Don't worry, they'll have a team for the derby this week i'm sure Wink
