Great result for Runcorn against a very talented and fit young Welsh outfit 26 - 18, and DLM actually brought the sun with him  Wink

RUNCORN RLC 26 Rhyl RLC 18 - June 18, 2009, 09:25:12 AM

Runcorn return to winning ways on home soil.

A Late charge from Runcorn kept their play off hopes alive as they powered past Rhyl, courtesy of a superb twenty minute second half burst.

Before the game coach Rob Calland said it was a must win game and the green and golds delivered with a solid display.

They did not have it all their own way as the Welsh outfit pushed them hard but in the end the home side triumphed.

The Coasters got off the mark first after the home side once again gave 2 silly penalties away marching the visitors up the field to score.

Runcorn hit back through Holian as the powerful centre made a great break up the left to power over.

Some great work in the middle from Willings and McAdam allowed Forshaw to finish for his 5th of the season, just before half time giving the hosts a much deserved half time lead.

Half time 12 - 6

Rhyl started the second half the better and scored in the first set of the half.

Inspirational Captian Patterson was next to cross for Runcorn which coupled with the introduction of blockbusting Utility Courtnage fired the home team into action to put the game to bed.

Courtnage ran the visitors defence ragged and Ryan was on the end of some slick handling to cross next for Runcorn quickly followed by another Patterson score which was undoubtably the try of the game.

The Captain took a great pass from McAdam and bounced off the cover tackle to go through, with options either side Patterson took it upon himself to step the fullback to score under the posts.

The coasters had the final say on the hooter to make it more respectable.

The teams will meet again a week Saturday both vying for a shot at the play offs. A Welsh loss could end their season while a win for Runcorn could put them in a good position.
