Runcorn completed the double over Rhyl in North Wales yesterday inflicting Rhyl's first home defeat of the season.  Played the game with 12 men for 50 minutes following 3 sin-binnings by a poor referee. Rhyl play on a school pitch no longer than 70m and they are a big physical, delighted with the win, im sure CJL will put the match report on www.runcornrlc.co.uk once he is over his aches and pains (and rested his voice after yesterday's rollocking!)

Lymm away next week in what should be an interesting encounter!

Patto we got beat by blackpool first game of the season with only 12 men, hopefully we will have erias park organised for next year, which will be a much better venue, thanks for the game guys, our lads will only improve from it, should be a cracking team in a few years, not bad as the only true development team in the league, still waiting for those serbian players to turn up for us though haha  Shocked Shocked Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Kiss

I think your boys should defo be pushing for a NWC spot, you have the nucleus of a good side there and would be a welcome addition!

Good effort yesterday Ray, if your big prop and your big centre ran all game as they did in the last 15 minutes the game would have been much closer.

Keep up the good work as the more we bring over from the dark side (union not Wales  Wink) the better.

And for yours and Patto's info. it was Mike Nick who told me of Serbs on player exchange.

The funniest one is about the time Widnes played Warrington and Mike Nicholas laid Jim Mills out with a high tackle. As the ref (Billy Thompson) called him out Big Jim shouted "leave him on Billy"

Mike asked the ref was he going off and the ref said, "not yet, but very likely in the forseeable future"

As the site has been down, the match report is below,

Taken from www.runcornrlc.co.uk

Runcorn powered past a vastly improved Rhyl side in scorching conditions on the sea side.

The visitors were made to work hard for the points as the referee bizarrely sin binned three Runcorn players in the first half.

Runcorn quickly dominated the game with 2 early tries, the first from McQuirter from acting half burrowing his way over the line.

Luke Willings then sped over for a brilliant solo effort throwing a dummy and racing 50 yards to finish under the posts, quickly followed by some superb work from McQuirter who danced his way round 3 players, bounced of another to step the full back for an outstanding try and his second of the afternoon.

The sin binning of Dunne for not answering back was the major turning point as the Welsh outfit hit back with two quick fire tries after Runcorn's superb start.

Runcorn where getting pinged all over the park for some quite innocuous penalties by Referee Bradshaw, which led to the green and golds spending 30 minutes of the first half with 12 men.

Despite the numerical disadvantage Runcorn defended superbly and held Rhyl to lead 12-18 at half time.

Team Manager Chris Leech stoked the fires with a Churchillian speech at half time which wound Runcorn up, who came out after the break with all a full compliment and all guns blazing.

After some big carries up the middle by Arrowsmith, Forshaw and Vowles, Hooker Lepts barged his way over from close range.

Captain and MOM Patterson scored next quickly followed by Forshaw who's try sealed the game for the visitors.

Runcorn, who are the only side to beat Wales on their own territory, face Lymn Wolves this week looking to avenge their home loss two months ago.

Coach Rob Calland said: 'The Welsh are a good side and are no longer the pushovers they once where. With that in mind it was a great win and puts us in good place for the play offs. We are hitting form at the right time.'

RUNCORN: S. McWhirter (2T), P. Dempsey, I. Cheveau, S. Worrall, K. McGreevey, L. Willings (1T), M. Barr, L. Forshaw(1T), J. Lepts (1T), G. Dunne, S. Vowles, S.Arrowsmith, D. Patterson (1T 6C MOM) SUBS A. Bateson, C. Leech, C. Hall, D. Murphy

RUNCORN MOM 1. D. Patterson, L. Willings, 3. S.McWhirter
