Carlsberg Super Cup 2009 Draw Made

The draw has been made for the opening round of the 2009 Carlsberg Super Cup, which kicks off at Twist Lane on Saturday 25th July.

The draw, which was made on Monday, features seven teams after a late withdrawal, which means that Bank Quay Bulls will receive a bye into the semi-finals. Unquestionably the tie of the round pits North West Counties champions Halton Simms Cross against the team that finished level on points with them, but lost out on points difference, Pilkington Recs. That game takes place on Saturday 25th July with a 3pm kick off.

Leigh East will probably be wearing the favourites' tag going into the tournament having already got game time under their belts in the summer NCL pilot, and with some new signings including former Miners lynchpin Scott O'Brien, they open against Cumbrian side Walney Central on Saturday, kick off 1.30pm.

The final tie of the opening round sees Miners face Haydock. Miners too will be looking to field some new faces, with the likes of Danny Jones now progressed from the youth team, and Haydock will be a stern test on Sunday 26th, kick off 3pm. The winners of that tie go through to face Bank Quay in the semi-final.

The semi finals are played on Saturday 1st August with the final on Sunday 9th August 3pm, preceded as always by the Fred Hilton under-13 cup final.

With the new season due to start tomorrow, (i know its a friendly but its classed as the start of the season cos theres no such thing as a friendly imo) i'd just like to wish Simms Cross the best of luck for the season, hope they continue there successful streak and bring much more silverware back to the corpy.

Good Luck Lads.

Apologies Rock i was under the impression PRE SEASON tournaments were "friendlys" for everyone to work on match fitness and new plays rather than the result being the be all and end all.

Id say in a knock out comp, the result would be the be all and end all.  Roll Eyes
