Under 18s Academy - Unofficial Report

Bradford 38 Widnes 24

All in all a pleasing performance from a very young and inexperienced Widnes team fielding no less than 7 first year players, probably the youngest team we have put out this year. The youngsters were not disgraced but, on a number of occasions, they were no match for their counterparts in one on one situations. Bradford made the breaks and took advantage. Our defence was generally excellent but we were punished for our mistakes and the youngsters will learn a lot from this game.

On the positive side, tries were scored by Chris Atkins making a brilliant interception and running 60 yds or so under the sticks, Tom Hirst bursting on to a short ball out wide from Adam Lawton. Gaz Anderton similar and Chris Lunt late on after good work by Doolin. Anderton converted all four tries.

Thank you much appreciated.

Quite a few unfamiliar names there. I suspect a few of them are only 16 yo's.
