There was a test cricketer with 33 caps who played for Widnes for over 5 years.

 Does anyone know who?

I think it was from 1878 to 1885.

There was also a Briggs who played Cricket for Widnes also, not sure if it was him or his son.

There are loads of sources online, some free but most charge for access to detailed info.

... although the National Archives website (link above) mentions the Mormons ('The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints') genealogy website, I don't think it gives the url, which is http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp.  The information on there is not 100% complete but it has the big advantage of being completely FREE to use  Smiley
