Mal Aspey went the full length of the pitch to score a fantastic try. He was shattered -being polite. think it was an away match, does anyone remember this?

my first main memory was nov 1989 Widnes versus canberra raiders at Old Trafford and Jonathan Davies running down the wing and Laurie Daley close-lining him and him nearly doing a 360 spin in the air.

Mal Aspey scored a lot of tries for Widnes. A solid and deceptively fast centre.

You might be thinking of a try in the 1980 Premiership Final against Bradford N at Station Rd, Swinton. Keith Bentley ended up scoring the try but it was created by Aspey's break from his own line followed by a pin-point kick through from about the half-way line. When interviewed after the game, Mal said something along the lines of "Well I had to kick it really since I couldn't have run much further myself". He may or may not have had his tongue in his cheek

Could well have been the BBC-2 Floodlit Trophy match at Wilderspool Tues Oct 31 1972. It finished 18-18 and we won the replay 14-11 at Naughton Park 2 weeks later.

and he still got up to score in the corner. Can still remember when he signed, i was sat having my tea when up he pops on national 6 o'clock news , nearly choked on my canapes.

Jackie Hayes scoring a try.
All I can recall from my failing memory is that it was a home game, early 50s?, unsure against who; he hadn't scored for "donkeys seasons", always took the play-the-ball and passed it, never ran with it; on this occassion, less than a yard from the opponents line, the markers went Left and Right to tackle the receiver as he always passed the ball - only this time the ball seemed to stick in his hand and as much to his amazement as anyone else's he fell over the line and scored.

Not sure what year it was in the '70's, but I remember Doug Laughton acting as the pivot in a planned move in front of the posts, at what used to be the scoreboard end, there must have been 7 or 8 dummy runners running past Doug taking defenders with them, none of them recieved the ball and as the last runner passed Doug just did a 360 degree turn and walked under the posts for a try and not a finger laid on him........priceless.

Tony myler at saints. drawing in last minute, under the sticks, dummied to drop kick, dummied to pass, walked under the posts, kissed the ball when he put it down. Kevin Ward had to pay at the turnstile to get back in

No they're not. The current gold price is £28767 per kilo. If you take an average SL centre, say George Carmont, 91 kilos, that works out at £2,617,797. No-ones worth that
galaxying legendary! Post of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!
