If the definition of top drawer is international recognition, then we cant miss off Reggie Bowden, always top drawer to me in every other respect but never recognised with an international cap despite his years of success with Widnes. Also a bit of a bionic man, given the succession of shoulder injuries that threatened to finish his career as a young player, but (I think) he had it pinned and was a new man.
Reg was my Captain in my alltime team selections. So I too recognised his quailties. A great leader I think he was the catalyst that started the rise to us becoming the Cup Kings that we were. He was the first decent Scrum Half we had after Ray Owen left us.

I thought Jimmy Boylan was a pretty decent scrum half, possibly better as a an out and out scrum half than Reg. Reg's strength was his allround game.

My now deceased Uncle's favorite Second Rower was a bloke called Freddie Higgins.
I obviously never saw him, but he was supposed to be quality. I wouldn't know if he was an International or noth though.............

I did, and often. He won 10 caps for England and Great Britain. Alec Higgins, his brother, a fine prop forward, won 9 caps for England and Great Britain before the war and played 313 times for Widnes. Like many players around that time he lost 5 years of his career due to the war. I often wonder how many times Harry Millington would have played for Widnes if the war had not been in the middle of his career.

Didn't Kebbie make his début at Anfield in a Charity Shield match against Pies? I was stood on the Kop that day. What year was it? Spelly.

SPELLY:
That was August 1989.
I'm pretty sure Kebbie made his debut towards the back-end of the 1988/89 season, because I was in my final year at Junior School then, and I remember he came to our school teaching us Rugby & Sprinting Skills.
