don't think that will happen in rugby league due to the salary cap, well, not to the extent of football anyway. if clubs can get big crowds and spend up to the salary cap then they have a good shot at challenging for the league, presuming that they are run well and buy good players not just spending for the sake of it.

Should point out that the last time Widnes enjoyed the success that Wire saw last year, we too saw similar attendances!

In any eyes, it is reassuring for our club that such support is still there for the game in our area. Go back two seasons and Wire didn't get half that gate for games so I would think that SOC would be happy to know that after two competitive seasons we might hope for a similar doubling in gates!

To be honest people want to watch top echelon rugby and a good atmosphere. If you are winning it also brings renewed interest.I know several people who used to go regular who do not go now or just pick games.I think widnes should look elsewhere to get new fans who do not remember the good old days.Season ticket holders will moan, but i think they should do ticket offers, especially in the financial climate. How about buy one get one free or £10 tickets.Free tickets to kids in other areas such as runcorn, northwich, frodsham and even widnes. These kids will then take a parent paying full price.Only ideas and i know some people will not go even if free. Warrington - SL side with a town population of around 191,000(2001 Census). Challenge Cup winners and a team looking like it's on the up.

Widnes - Conference side with a town population around 56,000. A large percentage of non-woollies, no interest in RL, sundays spent watching Everton, Liverpool or ManU in the pub. A large percentage that will only watch Widnes if they are in SL, and many that will only go if they can virtually get in for next-to-nothing.
